We stayed here for 1 night while visiting friends staying at Carpinteria State Beach. This is one of the nicer Best Western properties, and is about a mile from the beach in a residential area. Our room on the third floor had a vaulted ceiling and a faux balcony that you could not go out on. Our room was right along the freeway but the noise was a not a problem. Note that our room was called a two-queen bed room, but in reality had two double sized beds. The tiny pool area is in a corner of the property and almost seems like an afterthought. We'd probably stay here again if visiting the Carpinteria area

We stayed here two nights while visiting a sick aunt and uncle in Santa Barbara. The rate here was much better than any comparable hotel in Santa Barbara. This is a 5 minute hop on the freeway to get to Santa Barbara. Great location. We had an interior room and it was the quietest hotel room I have ever stayed in. We were on the 2nd floor and had doors that opened onto a deck with deck chairs that overlooked a court yard. It has a restaurant that we ate at for a late dinner snack and it was just average, but convenient. There are many restaurants, drug stores, grocery stores, etc. nearby. The pool area was small. It is an older hotel, but clean and unique. We would stay there again. In fact, we are planning on going back in June for another visit, and we will stay here again. It is a good value, especially compared to hotel rates in Santa Barbara. This hotel in Santa Barbara would be $300.00 a night. We paid $120.00.

I was just in Santa Barbara for a 5 day conference ($275 per night) and wanted to add 3 nights to my stay at a much less expensive hotel. I read the reviews on TripAdvisor, drove the short distance to Carpinteria and after checking out a couple of hotels in person I chose the Best Western - please don't chose the budget ones for a small amount more it is well worth it. I always think the care in looking after the flowers in front and in the courtyard are a good indicator in the care in other areas - my theory proved true. Although I was a walk-in they gave me good rates and further discount for the Sunday night and as suggested on TripAdvisor I requested to face the courtyard -with an almost full hotel they happily booked me in.

The rooms were clean and fresh, beds comfortable, carpet newer and plush and I didn't even mind going barefoot in the room. Staff were pleasant and seemed genuinely happy. A nice touch was if you did not have a room with a balcony, there are balconies for any one to use at either ends of the courtyard with a couple of patio tables on each level Although I did not need to use there were laundry facilities with two almost new washers and two almost new dryers in a bright small open space with chairs and reasonable fees for laundry detergent. Excellent water pressure in the showers. Fitness room was small but bright and had a good selection of newer machines. A microwave is available by the vending machines. Rooms come with a small fridge and while coffee is provided no creamer or sugar was -- this did not matter to me as Starbuck's is just down the street - and the great Reynoldo's bakery for breakfast burritos!

Yes, as some people have mentioned it is close to the highway but you do not hear it at all in the rooms. I might add this is quite common in many of the accomodations along the coast line including my $275 a night while at the conference. Carpinteria is a great location to head out from - one day I went up to Santa Barbara wine country, one day to Ojai, one day in Santa Barbara and the last day in the area at Carpinteria beachfront and the great nearby Summerland Park with great stretch of oceanfront to walk.

I look forward to staying at this hotel when I go back to the area again in August.

Santa Rosa

After dropping friends off at the fabulous Biltmore in Santa Barbara, we drove to this Best Western. While there's really no comparison, we were delighted with the lovely courtyard and polished ambiance of the Inn, as well as the room size - nearly as large as a Biltmore Suite, and about $600 less! Everything spotless, with a large bathroom and nice assortment of lotions, soaps, etc. We appreciate quality, and found it here. However, at 1 in the morning, the room smoke alarm started to beep. And beep. And beep. We called the front desk, and to our dismay, they said there was 'nothing they could do.' After thirty minutes of beeping, we called back and requested another room, which they gave us, although it was close to the freeway and noisy. We didn't sleep much the rest of the night. The next morning the front desk offered us $25 off our stay, which didn't seem quite right. (We are not demanding travellers, but felt the beeping alarm and lack of effort around it should be compensated.) Another staffer offered us half off, which we agreed to. However, when my companion called the General Manager, once home, he apologized very graciously and has given us a complimentary night. I know that unintended events happen, things can go wrong, and I don't hold it against hotel management, especially when they acknowledge the problem. (In fact, they deserve praise for it.)Had we had a sound night of sleep, I would have given this place five stars, and recommend to those who appreciate good value, and who don't mind a ten minute trip into Santa Barbara. For a chain hotel, it was even charming.

    • Disliked — Night staff didn't seem to know how to address the beeping alarm problem.
