This place had great beach access and was very dog friendly - our two top priorities for our weekend stay. Our room was very clean and comfortable. The beds were very firm, but we like it that way. The fridge and microwave were handy and we enjoyed sitting on the balcony. The TV remote didn't work so great, but it wasn't a big deal to us. Breakfast was nothing special (cereal, boiled eggs, pastries and fruit), but we grabbed enough to kill the pain until we could get something more substantial. Walking distance to everything. We had a memorable time here and will return.

On the outside this motel looks charming. When we went to the first room, which was downstairs on the beach side, we almost turned and ran. A one star rating is all it would merit, and the worst part was that any ocean view is totally blocked by an outside ugly brick retaining wall. But the upstairs is a different story. While the room was just so-so (though it has a nice wood ceiling instead of the ugly cottage cheese downstairs), there was a private balcony and an unbelievable view. However, the walls are paper thin-I heard the couple next door to me slam the door and argue all night-and it sounded like the harleys were inside the room! The continental breakfast is also a joke-day old pastries and fruit with packets of instant oatmeal. There are 2 nice coffee places down the street that make up for it.
Despite all of the negatives, it is worth staying at if and only if you get an upstairs oceanfront room. Otherwise, go elsewhere.

We just returned from our second stay at the Shoreline Inn. We werent quite as thrilled this time, but its still an excellent place to stay. The rooms are clean and orderly. The staff is pleasant and helpful. And the view is to die for. My only complaint was that because we had a child with us this time, we were denied the upstairs balcony room that we drove all those miles to stay in. Instead of waking up to the ocean I awoke to a brick wall and someones dog barking in my face (I slept with the door open). But thats a small price to pay to be sleeping on the ocean for the rates they gave us. Of all the beachfront hotels we have stayed at, the Shoreline is by far our favorite. Cayucos is a treat in itself, but staying at the Shoreline makes it even more special. Next time we bring the dog and not the kids ... ;-)

Not the most deluxe accommodations (bare-bones minimum bathroom, poorly laid out room). The carpet was in serious need of replacement too. We were able to have our two dogs with us, which was the big attraction of this place, other than the close beach access. To our surprise, there is a fabulous restaurant just across the street (called Hoppe's). It's a decent get-away with beautiful wine country close by.
