We stayed for 2 nights at this standard La Quinta property, located just northwest of the intersection of the I-405 and Harbor Blvd. This location is excellent for shopping at South Coast Plaza, the mega mall is about one mile east of the hotel on South Coast Drive.

I’m a gold member of the La Quinta Returns frequent sleeper program (10+ nites per year). I would give this location an average to slightly below rating for the La Quinta chain. The building and interior is somewhat dated, the rooms are standard, ours was clean but slightly smaller than the usual La Quinta king room. The best thing about our stay was the $62 AAA nightly rate, a bargain for this geographical area. Be warned that the hotel is about 50 feet from the northbound San Diego Freeway and the traffic noise is loud and incessant. The noise can be somewhat masked by running the digital wall-thermostat room air conditioner/heater.

The free breakfast was standard, but no waffle machine like many of the La Quinta locations. There is a Hooters restaurant adjacent to the hotel, but we chose to eat dinner at the food court at the South Coast Plaza. We didn't have an opportunity to use the shuttle to/from the nearby airport.

The La Quinta Costa Mesa/John Wayne Airport is a good choice for Orange County accommodation at a low cost. There are certainly nicer hotels in this area, but few to none with lower rates.

This hotel used to cost $ 69.99 per stay , wich was a good deal for a clean mid standard hotel, but lately the price is rise to 89.99,

When I pulled up I was a bit leery. The outside is somewhat sketchy. The service was friendly and nice and when I got to my room I was happy that it was new, clean and up to date. The hotel is kind of out of the way, not near a lot but a few miles away was everything I needed. LA Fitness/24 HR Fitness are both with 3 miles as well as several restaurants and there is a Hooters in the parking lot of the hotel if you get really desperate. Easy freeway access and the bed was comfortable, not great but it wasnt bad. All in all that is a fair assessment of the entire hotel. Not great, Not bad. I did pass on the breakfast though. All hotels are rough in this area for me though as I prefer healthy options versus cakes and muffins. I am not married to the hotel but I would stay here again if I couldnt find anything better in the price range.

This hotel appears to be trying hard to be more upscale, but they haven't quite succeeded yet. They have some nice amenities such as thermostat controlled air, free high-speed internet access, complimentary breakfast, comfortable beds, etc. However, the paper cups in the rooms combined with the paper thin towels take something away. Good place for one or two nights at the most if you get a good deal.
