Imagine my delight when we arrived at this exquisitely renovated, elegant country inn. My husband surprised me with a romantic get-away in Ft. Bragg--not exactly the garden spot of the California Coastline!--and I could not have imagined that this treasure awaited us. First of all, it is on a working harbor, complete with sea lions, so we could gaze at boats to our hearts' content. The sounds of sea lions barking and the occasional announcement from the Coast Guard station, as well as the distant fog horn were music to my ears. The inn itself looks like a Bloomingdale's catalog, complete with lush towels (one of my personal benchmarks for true luxury). The bed was like a cloud and our sleep was heavenly. The windows are large and sun-filled, and the personal touches like fresh flowers and champagne waiting in our room as well as Waterford crystal reading lamps made us just want to stay and luxuriate and look out the window and read. We did venture out for meals at authentic little waterfront restaurants and bars, where we were treated hospitably and fed well.
