Hampton Inns have done a really nice job with the system-wide remodeling they've done over the last couple years. The rooms are modern without being trendy, comfortable with a decent amount of space, and a good value in the space between the bed, shower and nothing else world of Motel 6 and full service hotels.
Hampton Inn Goleta fits the mold, with attractive baths with granite vanities, warm woods throughout the room, a comfortable bed and a flat-panel TV. If you've stayed in one of the new Hampton Inns, you've stayed in this room. This is not a bad thing by any means.
Service is excellent as well. Quick and responsive, doing a bit extra. For example, the batteries were dead in my remote. I walked it down to the front desk, and they said they'd bring it back up to me. About two minutes later, there was a knock at my door. The desk agent waited at my doorway while I tested the remote, making sure it worked. A small thing, but still showing they know the right way to take care of guests.
Breakfast is good, although the plastic flatware and styrofoam plates/bowls are both a letdown from the high standards the rest of the hotel displays and an environmental waste.
The location's so-so if you're vacationing in Santa Barbara, although the price benefit compared to the main part of the city is definitely a plus. There's not much immediately around the area, but freeway access is right there and it's a quick drive into the heart of Santa Barbara. If you're there on business on the west side of the Santa Barbara area, or needing to be close to UCSB, it's a very good choice.
Summary: while the location's not ideal (at least for a vacation), the high quality of the rooms and the price make Hampton Inn Goleta a very good choice.
