Wow, What happen to AJ spurs? Was one of my favorites. Returned there this evening after not having been in a long while...new owners? What??? It was terrible, What used to be delicous stew, beans and salsa, (my favorite part of the meal) Went to canned veggie stew, lousy canned beans and the salsa that was nothing more than a can of stewed tomatoes w/green chile. Even the salad went from yumm to yuck. You will be very disapointed if you remember the great steak house it once was...Mcklintocks or better yet the never fail hitching post remains king on the central coast.

Two words my friends...

Tequila Beans!

Eat them! NOW! Spoon it all into your bowl and ask for more. Screw the stew. It serves no purpose but as a base to mix with and more thoroughly enjoy your tequila beans. If your waiter didn't explain this to you. He's a douche.

Put the menu down. You don't need it. You might want to read the little history section, but that will make it harder to scarf down your beans. Also you will get beans all over the menu and feel foolish.

Order a piece of BEEF! You have about three options.

1. Prime Rib: Is it a weekday? Sorry...weekends only. Is it Sunday? Sorry...sold out.
2. Fillet Mignon: It's wrapped in bacon. BACON!
3. Beef Ribs: Do this. Even if you ordered something else. Order the ribs anyway. See if any make it home. I dare you.

Don't want one of these three items? AJ Spurs is not for you. Quickly eat your beans and say you have to leave because it's an emergency.

Still here?...okay

Don't order ranch on your salad. It's CRAP ranch. When will "nice" restaurants learn what every two bit pizza place knows? Mix your ranch in house with buttermilk! Cheap skates.

Order your non-ranch dressing on the side. Apparently no one knows the appropriate amount of dressing for a small dinner salad.

Rice pilaf and grilled potatoes? Are you kidding me? It's okay...the meat will be worth it. Ask for butter with your potatoes. Ask for more bread! Sometimes you can get extra bread instead of rice. Not often. This is a substitutions no-no type restaurant. Play it by ear. If you just ask when you order it is easier for them to shoot you down than if you ask for something when they say "Can I get you anything else?" "YES! More bread please."..."and more beans."

Have you enjoyed your meat product? Don't pack up jut yet. If it looks like you're ready to leave they'll let you go without the rootbeer float that comes with your meal. Shame.

Yes it's high maintenance. No the salad and sides are not spectacular. I would rather just get beans and ribs from a corner stand, but guess what? They would be the best beans and ribs ever and no one here would complain. They make the meal. They make my day!

We thought the two hour wait would of been wourth it but, we were wrong. The beef stew had no beef, the salad was drenched in ranch dressing (that's what they give you before the meal.. .). For the main course my fiance and I had the sirlon steak and the new york steak. The sirlon steak was very dry and yes, even after i asked for A1 steak sauce.
The rice the steak came with was like eating Uncle Bens instint rice. The potatos they surved with the steak were really dehydrated and did not taste good.
The best part of this meal was the baked potato we took home.
So, If you don't mind paying $40.00 for a good baked potato then, AJ Spurs is the place for you.
I will never return to AJ Spurs again.

hello, let me start off by saying i eat a lot of steak. i love it. everywhere i go i eat it. i could eat steak 3 times a day. soooo, when we saw this place we figured that it should be our sat night dinner spot. we chose spurs over mclintock's because that place sounded annoying with the waiters, etc.

ok, so the place works with its decor. the staff is friendly and they work quickly, but not in an annoying way. they pay attention to you and get what you need quickly. soup and salad were served right away and both were basic and good.

it didn't take long for my prime rib (the special of the night) and my guest's bbq chicken breast to arrive. really, it came out too quick.

the bbq chicken was ok, but basically all they do is cook up a chicken breast and throw some mesquite bbq sauce on it after. as most people who have ever cook bbq before know, that's not really bbq, and it just makes the skin taste like the sauce. the actual chicken was normal.

my steak was not very good. it was bland and not cooked how i ordered (medium; at it was very brown). i tried some salt, no help. i tried the au jeux, no help. there has only be one other time in my life i didn't finish a steak, and i think i was 3. i ate half of it. couldn't stand it.

the rice that came with it was way too salty. the potatoes were too greasy. the piece of bread was good though.

ok, so if you really know steak, pass this one up. good on decor and attitude and bad with the food side of things. sorry. i really wanted to like it, but for $65 for two people, we should have gotten better tasting food.

oh well.

I have been here so many times I have lost count. The food and service is consistently great. The pork chops are my favorite. I have been to the other locations in Solvang and Santa Maria and this one is the best by far. Don't miss this place. Great value as well.
