For our 9 day vacation in So. Calif., we wanted to stay at a motel near the Ocean, but didn't have a lot of money to spend. We found the Oceanview Motel on the internet and couldn't believe the price, $69.00 a night! What a deal, but could it be true? I decided to do a little research and got some extremely mixed reviews, especially on Expedia. Considering the price, and the fact that it was close to the ocean, we decided to go with the nicer reviews and make the best of it. When we first got there, a lady came up to us and told us that this place was a dump and to get our money back. However, in listening to her boyfriend, it was obvious that the couple were trying to scam the motel and get a 3 hour stay for free. So, with a little trepidation, we signed in and went upstairs to check out our room. We were pleasantly surprised. We found fairly new carpet, new bathroom floors, new bath and shower, and a clean room with an okay view of the ocean, though you had to look between the beach houses across the street, but we already expected that from the pictures. Contrary to the reviews on Expedia, there was no auto shop next door making noise in the early am, or anytime for that matter. And yes there weren't a lot of channels on the TV, but there was HBO, and we weren't in the room all that much. As for the owners living on the premises, they were very nice, and unless you needed something you didn't really see them, and when you did smell their food it smelled great. There were several restaurants within walking distance. And, they supplied as many towels as you requested, contrary to previously stated by others. The only thing that could have been better was if the ocean were a little closer, we did have to walk to the nearest signal and cross the street to get to the beach. However, the motels that were a little closer walking distance were another $100 per night. I guess the 5 minute walk was worth saving the extra $900. I'm not really sure why people wrote the negative reviews, but after a 9 day, very pleasant stay, I felt that someone needed to say something nice for a change. It wasn't the Ritz, but for $69.00 a night you couldn't ask for more.
