I've eaten at Pete Mallory's a couple of times when I happened to be at the Hyatt Hotel for meetings. I would definitely not go there otherwise. The menu of Cal/Mex items is on par with a Coco's Restaurant with higher prices. OK but nothing memorable.
One irritating feature is the stupid "Legend of Pete Mallory." The staff tells a story of a local surfer who owned a shop where the hotel now stands and now travels the world surfing. Pete's plaque from the HB Surfing Walk of Fame is now located at the entrance to the restaurant. Each evening at sunset they toast Pete. Believe this HB resident -- THE STORY IS A FRAUD. THERE WAS NEVER A SURFER PETE MALLORY. The hotel was built on the site of an old golf course and trailer park. There are plenty of real surf legends in HB, who you can learn about at the HB Surf Museum. I find it offensive that the made up this story and try to sell it as true. When confronted about this, the hotel management says that it would have been difficult to use a real story so they made up one.
