“Great views of the beach!”

Hilton Waterfront Beach Resort

11 Apr 2008

My wife and I stayed here for a weekend using Hilton points. We had a room on the 9th floor which appeared to have been recently renovated. It was all new with an LCD TV. We had a balcony with a great view of the beach and ocean. Note that the hotel is across the street from the beach, so there was a fair amount of traffic noise, but the view was great. All rooms appear to have a balcony with an ocean view. Our room was the farthest back from the beach, so as long as your up a few floors, even the worst view is awesome.

We stayed on the "sunrise" side of the hotel on the recommendation of the front desk clerk. She told us about the construction on the "sunset" side of the hotel. So even though the "sunset" side had a view of the pier and the sunset, immediately adjacent to the hotel is a large construction project. There was no noise while we were there, but it is a bit of an eyesore and I would expect a fair amount of noise during the week.

Our only complaint about the room was noise from the hallway and adjoining room. We were near the elevator and could hear talking from the hallway very clearly inside our room well into the night. There is no sound proofing between the room and hall. And very little between the adjoining rooms. Make sure to request a room far from the elevators.

The common areas, including the pool, were very nice. But don't expect an expansive Hawaii-type resort. It's really just a very nice hotel in a great location.

We had dinner in the hotel restaurant - Spades. The food was incredible - probably the best filet mignon I've ever tasted. And the swordfish was excellent, as well. There's no need to leave the hotel for a great meal.

As a Diamond member, we received vouchers for a free continental breakfast - our choice of the restaurant or room service. We chose room service and were glad we did. The only charge was $3 delivery fee plus tip. The server brought our food promptly and set it all up for us on the table on the balcony. It was only continental, but was way too much food for us, and included coffee and juice. A great way to start the day!

The beach is right across the street, an easy short walk. There are many fire rings on the beach and the hotel will even provide fireword and all the fixings for making smores (for a fee, of course). The pier and adjacent shops are a little further - maybe a half mile.

Overall, a great place to stay. The only reason I didn't rate it excellent was the noise in the room.

I spent three nights at this hotel for a business trip and l had an enjoyable stay. The hotel was beautifully presented, and right across the road from the beach and in close proximity to shops(note: the shopping options next to the hotel are pretty limited however there is a huge shopping mall(south coast plaza) around 20 minute drive from the hotel-definately worth the trip). Nice lobby area, good sized pool and decent sized clean rooms & bathroom. The balcony offered great views of the beach & pier, and georgous sunset views. The staff are extremely friendly, accomodating, professional and aim to please. The food from the hotel restaurants was not the best however the service was good. Overall, l had a very pleasant stay and would consider returning to this hotel in future.

“Not bad, but way too pricey”

Stayed here the last week of February and enjoyed the hotel. It is very nice and modern and kept very clean. I think that all rooms have an ocean view, which is across the highway. It has a great location as you can walk to the beach or walk less than a 1/2 mile to dozens of restaurants and other shops. This hotel is nice when works pays for it, but i would not pay over $100 a night myself for this because of all the other charges. $22 for parking, $10 for internet, $6 a beer at the hotel bar, $18 for a burger........

Definately not worth the money. I've stayed at the Best Western off PCH (Huntington Beach) for a lot less money. The Best Western was ten times better than the Hilton Waterfront. The hallway noise in the hotel is very LOUD. If you are a light sleeper like myself then don't even bother with this place. My room was next to the elevator and it was very noisy! I even requested a room away from the elevator and that request was ignored. The staff was nice but it just looked like they were going through the motions.
Here a tip for Hilton Waterfront... Hire older staff. The teenagers that you have on staff have other things on their minds than service. On the Hotel website they stated that they have live entertainment in the Shades PM lounge every Friday and Saturday nights. I went there on a Saturday night and the only entertainment I got was the TV broadcasting a live college basketball game. If you want to find me the next time I'm in Huntington Beach then look no further than the Best Western.

I live on the beach, so seeing the ocean isn't the most important thing for me in a hotel. First the good news, the location of the hotel is great. It is right on the ocean and, with an oceanfront room, you have a nice view of Catalina Island and some offshore oil rigs...vestiges of Huntington Beach's beginnings as an oil town. The service from the valet and at the front desk was excellent, as was room service. (As for room serivce the actual service was good, the price was crazy, but hey, it's room service!)

We did get two free cocktails at check-in, which I like. I was not sure if everyone got one or if it was because I'm a Hilton Diamond member, but it was nice.

What disappointed:

1) The shower was lukewarm at best, even when turned all the way to Hot. Come on, for over two hundred dollars a night you should be able to take a hot shower. I couldn't decide if they were trying to boost the bottom line or if they were concerned about global warming. Either way, this was well below my expectations.

2) There is no self parking, nor anywhere near the hotel to park. This leaves you dependent on the $22.00/night valet parking. I didn't like this and in fact, this is the reason I will avoid staying here in the future.

3) How hard is it to provide good coffee in the room? Apparently pretty hard because the coffee here sucked. And what's with Sweet n Low as hte only non-sugar sweetner option. Hey Hilton, this is the 21st Century, let's update the sweeteners and the coffee. I realize this may be petty, but when your paying over $200.00/ night you should get a little more.

4) Service in the bar sucked, or, to be fair, sucked initially. There were three bartenders but our glasses stayed empty way too long. It was like pulling teeth to get a menu and, once we did, we had to ask twice for someone to take our order. After about an hour, (we were drinking and talking), we did get a server who was really on top of it and our experience was great.

That about wraps it up. Overall I was disappointed because there are nice hotels nearby (that are Hilton's) that have much better service, better pricing and as nice hotel rooms. Probably won't stay here again because the value overall just isn't there.
