If you are seeking something different, peaceful and out of the way, Buttercreek Ranch is for you. Traveling to the property requires a few hours on narrow, windy highways and private dirt roads. The cabin is literally "off the grid" relying on solar energy to power lights and appliances. The on-site owners are friendly and very eager to share their little corner of the world with guests. We were welcomed with a jar of homemade jam, along with tomatoes, plums, zucchini and fresh herbs from the garden. We also got a generous invitation to help ourselves to anything in the garden.
The cabin itself is cozy...perfect for 2-3 people. There is a large deck that wraps around the entire building so you can find a sunny or shady spot to sit any time of day. The kichen is well equipped with most necessities (minus a microwave). The livingroom furniture is wicker, and therefore not particularly comfy for extended lounging. This was fine for us since we spent most of our time outside...but if you were going for a winter getaway, it is something to consider. The bed is firm and comfy, and the furnishings were adequate....nothing fancy, but not dumpy either. We appreciated the gas BBQ on the deck, and the daily visit from the neighborhood deer. And since there are no city lights for miles....the stargazing is spectacular.
