“Nice Room, But Poor Service”

I stayed at the San Diego Marriott La Jolla for two nights in mid-April 2008. The rooms are the standard Marriott rooms - comfy beds, flat screen tv, marble tile baths, etc. - pretty nice. However, the service at this Marriott was sub-par, definitely not the normal Marriott service I have received from other Marriott hotels. The front desk was not friendly and not very helpful. I wanted directions on taking the trolley into the Gaslamp Quarter and the concierge couldn't help and proceeded to transfer me to the front desk. The front desk acted as if they'd never had a guest ask for directions to the Gaslamp Quarter before. The location of the hotel is also a letdown - not close to the beach, in a pretty boring area. I'm pro the Marriott feel when it comes to business hotels - and the La Jolla Marriott rooms didn't disappoint - but next time, I'll look elsewhere for a better location and friendlier staff.

We arrived march 16 and stayed til the 22nd of march. Even though we ate in the sports bar sunday nite, the food was decent but pricey. The hotel included free breakfast every day which was great. fresh eggs any way you want was the way to go. Parking was included which is great because it is $18.00 a day to park. the hotel was near interstate 5, 15 minutes from the airport, 10 minutes from Seaworld and 20 minutes from The Zoo. Dinner in the main resturant was good but pricey. The rooms were average size without any microwave and mini refrigerator. Housekeeping was good but we found a previous gentleman underware under one of the double beds. The staff was kind and courteous. I had a problem logging onto the internet and they helped me within minutes and got me a credit from time used . The pool and weight room was small but adequate for our needs. The concierge help was good especially with directions to the zoo and Seaworld.
Overall I would recommend this hotel and stay their again if I came back to San Diego.
The only thing is the price of the room did not meet the quality of the room. We paid $ 347.00 a day for 2 double beds and no refrigerator or microwave. it was way overpriced.

I arrived early in San Diego for a business trip and needed a cheap Marriott property for one night. (I am an active participant in their rewards program.) Much to my surprise, the best price in the area was for the La Jolla Marriott. It was the week between Christmas and New Year's and San Diego is quite quiet this time of year. As a result, I stayed on the top floor in a king room, enjoying a decent view of the area. The lobby is striking, and I spent the better part of an afternoon working there after I had checked out. Very comfortable with good food at the lobby bar. My room was quite comfortable with appealing furnishings--a little more upscale than most Marriott properties. The only downside was the thin walls. I could hear the maid next door scrubbing down the bathroom and listening to the TV at top volume. Nevertheless, I received lots of personal service here, even to the point of the bell captain coming to my room to try to help me with an injured foot. (Not injured there!) This hotel is about a ten minute drive from La Jolla Cove, across the street from a mall and situated in an upscale business park.

After reading the previous review, we were a little dubious about staying at this Marriott in La Jolla. However, after entering the lobby area of the hotel, we were definitely pleasantly surprised. Yes, renovations are now complete and the new lobby is beautiful, with a contemporary touch - cool lounge music playing in the background, modern furniture and a "real" fire - and not to mention a cool bar area. Although our room was not ready on check-in, the staff were extremely pleasant and made sure that we got another room immediately. The rooms are furnished in the standard Marriott way - bed, desk, tv, sofa and smallish bathroom (no separate shower), coffee/tea making facilities - so although the room is on the small side, it's completely comfortable for 2 people. The Marriott exec lounge is very small in comparison to those in Asia, but does the job with the complimentary snacks - but you do have to pay 5.5 dollars for a glass of chardonnay (which is obviously the norm in the US). We decided to eat breakfast at the restaurant downstairs as the choice is good and a nicer atmosphere than the exec lounge. There is also a small snack bar/cafe "Quench" where you can get your Starbucks fix and fresh juices, croissants etc. thoughout the day. The hotel is fairly close to a shopping mall where they have Sears, Nordstroms and Macys - and a new Crate & Barrel. From Marriott to La Jolla town is approx. 10 min drive. Overall, our stay at Marriott was definitely a pleasant and comfortable one, where the staff are extremely pleasant and friendly and would recommend this hotel to any fellow traveller.

Horrible accomodations, the air conditioning didn't work, the staff was non-existent, the food abysmal and the kiddie-pool is a joke.
