My wife and I just returned from the fourth of July weekend and stayed for three nights at the Marriott La Jolla.
The hotel has obviously been remodeled recently, with upscale modern decor in the front desk area and nice furnishings in room. The bed and duvet bedding were excellent. (better than at home) The granite topped dresser is nice touch. Did not figure out coffee maker was in room, hidden behind a false door in dresser until about to check out. Room was quite small for a Marriott. Also, between location being rather far from beach, unimpressive pool area and very small rooms, not a family friendly hotel. It is in the middle of a corporate park and very close to large mall.
Small gripe. Hotel should not charge $18/day to park being so far from beach and downtown. Easily remedied. At least two other parking garages adjacent to hotel. Small garage directly west of hotel only charges a maximum of $10 per day. (typical garage with no in/out privileges) Apparently, this garage does not even place an employee in the little booth on weekends to collect the fee's. We were able to drive in and out all weekend and never paid anything. Surprised more people did not catch on to this, as only a handful of cars used this lot and dozens were in the expensive hotel lot.
Weird pool area with very small and simple pool inside, surrounded by exercise machines. There was a second small pool outside, both with nothing but old concrete decking.
Overall nice hotel, but not worth more than $100/night. (Booked on priceline for $90) Great for business travelers, would not recommend for families.
