If you love B&Bs in New England you are going to love the Turret House. If you've never been to New England but want (somewhat) of a parallel experience try the Turret House. I do love the B&B experience and have stayed in many such places in New England (and around the world) but finding a similar place in Los Angeles is almost impossible. Now I can heartily recommend the Turret House! This is a really old house (100 years this year I think) right down to the push button light switches. It has been lovingly restored and decked out with all manner of period objects d'art. The hosts (I only met Brian and furry sons Winston, Waldo and Drayton – sorry Jeff) were very accommodating and equally concerned about their guests enjoying their stay. Of course, if you want Hyatt amenities you should stay there but, if you are willing to enjoy the ambiance of a historical structure and the international guests to which it appeals, don't hesitate book a room. All that being said, the house is on a fairly busy street and it is a bit loud at night due to traffic. I thought it would be annoying but I fell asleep without trouble (sans free ear plugs and sound machine) and stayed that way just as if I was asleep at home. The Turret House is very conveniently located (just off the 710 freeway, 6th street exit) and if you enjoy walking around town, it's an easy walk down to Pine Street where there is a lot of action. Further down is the convention center, harbor and Aquarium. There's even free bus service along that route if you don't want to walk the entire way (probably less than 1.5 miles one way). In case you are wondering about the guests this kind of place attracts here is our rundown from Saturday night: 3 people there for the hair show at the convention center; a medical doctor and his wife from Sweden, but originally from Belgrade there for an annual international conference at the Hyatt; a couple from Maine about to embark on a Mexican Riviera cruise and me, from only 60 miles away but there just because I didn't want to drive all the way down and back in one day. The posted photos do the house justice. Enjoy a wonderful stay at the Turret House! I did!!
