Last minute trip to Los Angeles...only place that was recommended 100% and had the highest ratings. Loved it, you can check it as late as you want (last minute trips:) ). After spending all day and evening around Long Beach and the Queen Mary, we were exhausted. Came "home" and grabbed a Fat Tire beer out of the fridge and went to our room to watch TV the rest of the night. Was thirsty during the middle of the night so I had some OJ from the fridge. They encourage you to help yourself to anything and everything in the fridge and the rest of the house. Brian, Winston and Waldo are the best!! Why pay for a hotel and have to bring your own snacks, drinks and so on yourself. Besides the fact that besides paying for the hotel room we have to pay ANOTHER $20-30 to park there !!! Not at The Turret house. Awesome rates and it feels like home. WE WILL NEVER STAY AT ANOTHER HOTEL IN LA AGAIN !!!

The Turret House is a great place to stay if you want to escape the antiseptic hotel scene. Brian and Frank are gracious hosts, and they work hard to keep you comfortable. The rooms are cozy, although the Turret Room is a perhaps a little too cozy for two adults. Go to the Hyatt or the Marriott if you want to be treated like just another customer; go to the Turret House if you want to be treated like a human being.

If you love B&Bs in New England you are going to love the Turret House. If you've never been to New England but want (somewhat) of a parallel experience try the Turret House. I do love the B&B experience and have stayed in many such places in New England (and around the world) but finding a similar place in Los Angeles is almost impossible. Now I can heartily recommend the Turret House! This is a really old house (100 years this year I think) right down to the push button light switches. It has been lovingly restored and decked out with all manner of period objects d'art. The hosts (I only met Brian and furry sons Winston, Waldo and Drayton – sorry Jeff) were very accommodating and equally concerned about their guests enjoying their stay. Of course, if you want Hyatt amenities you should stay there but, if you are willing to enjoy the ambiance of a historical structure and the international guests to which it appeals, don't hesitate book a room. All that being said, the house is on a fairly busy street and it is a bit loud at night due to traffic. I thought it would be annoying but I fell asleep without trouble (sans free ear plugs and sound machine) and stayed that way just as if I was asleep at home. The Turret House is very conveniently located (just off the 710 freeway, 6th street exit) and if you enjoy walking around town, it's an easy walk down to Pine Street where there is a lot of action. Further down is the convention center, harbor and Aquarium. There's even free bus service along that route if you don't want to walk the entire way (probably less than 1.5 miles one way). In case you are wondering about the guests this kind of place attracts here is our rundown from Saturday night: 3 people there for the hair show at the convention center; a medical doctor and his wife from Sweden, but originally from Belgrade there for an annual international conference at the Hyatt; a couple from Maine about to embark on a Mexican Riviera cruise and me, from only 60 miles away but there just because I didn't want to drive all the way down and back in one day. The posted photos do the house justice. Enjoy a wonderful stay at the Turret House! I did!!

“Best place in the best part of LA”

Turret House

I have to admit, I was not impressed by LA. But I was so fortunate to book this B&B in Long Beach, which is a very good place in LA near the beaches. The Turret House was excellent. Loved the hospitality, loved the two owners, loved the room, loved the breakfast. If you are planning on visiting LA, don't go to hollywood, stay away from Beverly Hills, go to Long Beach and stay in the Turret House!

We loved this place. Jeff and Brian are warm and accommodating, and I admit I had a hard time not putting the dogs into my suitcase to come home with us.
We arrived early after getting off our cruise, and happily for us the room was ready so we could leave our stuff and begin exploring. We were the weirdos you would see out walking as everyone seems to drive. We found the location excellent to much of what we wanted to do, and Brian kindly pointed out where the bars were for us.
The only downside is it can be loud, but the earplugs provided gave my hubby a great night sleep ( I had no problems sans earplugs)
Breakfast was yummy and served early enough so we could make our way to the airport early to fly back to the cold wet snowy east coast.
All in all if we ever get back to Long Beach we would love to stay at the Turret House again.
