“At home in the Turret House”

Turret House

31 May 2008

What a fabulous place to stay - Brian & Jeff are wonderful hosts along with Winston & Waldo the 2 friendly Bulldogs. I only stayed 1 night at the end of my trip, but wished I had stayed much longer. A home away from home, great guests, comfy room & a beautiful house to use as you would your own home. The homedics tranquil sounds in the room was a great touch for a relaxing sleep. I highly recommend staying at the Turret House.

“A Destination In Itself!”

Turret House

13 May 2008

This little B&B was absolutely a delightful surprise!! The owner, the dogs, the guests, the hospitality....make this a destination in itself. One of the owners was gone, but the other owner was very friendly and helpful. Winston, the bulldog, was ADORABLE!! The Diet Coke in the fridge, the wine bottle always open and available, the red licorice at the front door, the beautiful table setting for breakfast, the game room that takes you back to night in the Great Gatsby....we really enjoyed our stay here. The added touch of eye make-up remover in the bathroom, ear plugs, sound machine....nice touch!

Just so you know though, this is a old house, so the bedrooms are quite small. There is no fancy TV and the closet is an armoire. We stayed in the Queen Mary room which fronts the street...which is quite noisy. The bathrooms were pleasant, but be prepared for an old-fashioned bathtub and shower. Delightful though.

The charm of this B&B is that because you have the run of the house, there is no need to spend all your time in your room unless you want to rest, sleep, or watch TV.

Given the size and atmosphere, this is probably not an Inn for families unless you have older kids. There are all kinds of books, newspapers, games, and cards with which to entertain yourself. We hope to visit there again sometime.

“Fantastic in every way”

The Turret House provided everything we could have asked for in a 4 night stay, and much more. Beginning with a welcoming and totally hassle free check-in, we (2 couples travelling together) had a great time and were made to feel right at home. Brian and Jeff go to great lengths to help each guest settle in and make the house their own. The daily breakfast buffet, in-house laundry, free N. America long distance, internet access, and not least of all, continuous supply of beverages and snacks all help make the Turret House a great place to call home while on vacation or business. The owners' two beautiful bulldogs, Waldo and Winston are regular fixtures in the home but never feel in the way. In fact, their presence only adds to the homey feel of the place.
We stayed in the Provincetown Room (with its own balcony), and our travelling companions were in the Queen Mary Room. Both were pleasantly decorated, skillfully maintained and exceptionally clean. All towels and available toiletries were refilled daily. Nothing was lacking.
Before our stay, the owners warned that the house may be a bit loud due to traffic noise, and advised that ear plugs and ambient noise machines were available in each room. Although we appreciated the effort, it turned out, for us, to be unnecessary. Even when sleeping with the balcony door open, we rarely noticed the traffic noise at all.
If this review comes across as glowing, it should. I can't emphasize enough the positivity of our experience. The value speaks for itself, especially when you consider that you would pay a similar rate at any area hotel, but without receiving anything close to the amenities and friendliness of the Turret House. This was our first time to Long Beach; we look forward to returning to the Turret House any time we visit the area.

“A Home Away From Home”

My colleague who attended our profession's national convention in Long Beach a few years ago pointedly told me to consider nothing but the Turret House. I stayed there a week....and wished I could have stayed indefinitely. Jeff and Brian, the owners and hosts, are wonderfully sincere and friendly people. I had an extremely comfortable room and run of the house. Ah! What joy taking bubble baths in the deep, claw-footed tub just like I did when I was a kid! The guys have decorated the rooms with a tasteful, eclectic eye full of details and niceties. The Direct TV programming and wireless internet connections were much appreciated. Every morning the breakfast was a banquet -- I tried not to hog the gourmet raisin bread and fresh fruit medley all to myself. Thank you guys, for the high quality/standards throughout. But the very best part for me was their bulldog, Winston, who kept me from missing my own dog terribly. He occasionally visited the house and was happy to play! Turret House is located on the free Passport B bus line, yet I chose to walk the 15 minutes every day down to the convention center. It was exceptionally easy to visit the Queen Mary, Aquarium of the Pacific, the numerous restaurants, etc., etc., etc. I've been home for awhile and not a day goes by where I do not think of the Turret House, Jeff and Brian, Winston, and Long Beach. JetBlue reservations, when can you take me back there??? Take my advice and skip those sterile high-priced hotels. Hands down, the Turret House is where you want to be.

As soon as you enter the foyer and peek into the parlour, notice the leaded glass windows and beautiful Tiffany lamps, you'll be thinking of your Grandmother's cozy, warm house, perhaps on Prince Edward Island! The wooden staircase up to your room might be a little creaky but remember you're travelling back to the early 1900's. The wood is so dark & rich and plentiful; floors, doors, casings. The walls are covered with precious memories, pictures & memorabilia from another era. The hand painted walls & ceilings are just gorgeous to match it all. The rooms are close by but still quiet and private. We stayed in the Queen Mary room, cozy, well decorated to the theme with a comfy queen bed and bathroom w/ claw foot tub/shower. Remember again why you chose a smaller, cozy bed & breakfast! We wondered if anyone else was even in the house, it was so quiet. As we ventured back downstairs, what beautiful treasures we found in each room. A living room parlour with an old piano & setees for all. The dining room was filled with an inviting table all set w/ china & silver and the buffets were full of goodies at breakfast, of course coffee & teas at any time. The owners were very friendly as they popped in from next door to say "hello" and let us know how welcome we were to make ourselves at home. Snacks & drinks were also available in the kitchen at any time. It surely did feel like Grandma's house when the 2 English Bulldogs moseyed in. They were so friendly & mellow just hanging around also. We sipped some wine & chatted for awhile, sat in the "sitting room" by the fireplace and enjoyed seeing all the antiques. At breakfast next morning we were surprised to see all the other guests, so quiet in the house but so friendly to chat over that scrumtious meal. We watched the birds outside the dining window as they also enjoyed visiting each other. We couldn't have been more enchanted by it all and would surely recomend a stay at The Turret House in Long Beach, CA as a "must do". We were able to walk to the Convention Center close enough by & enjoyed an afternoon stroll around the harbor & boardwalk shops. For such a short weekend visit for us it sure seemed like we had stepped back in time for many days, very restful & enjoyable.
