November 8-12, 2006 – Our home was being fumigated and we needed a place to stay with our three pets for four nights. Our choice was the Residence Inn in Los Alamitos, CA, (called Residence Inn Cypress) about six miles from our home. Both my wife and I were very happy with every aspect of the hotel.
We had reserved a studio suite for three nights using Marriott Reward points and paid for the fourth night which was $109.00. Check in was fast and friendly. We received a ground floor room as requested. Our suite was #122. In addition to the room rate, there was a $100.00 charge for our pets.
The studio suite was beautiful! It had a well equipped kitchen with full size refrigerator/freezer/ice maker, microwave, electric range, and dishwasher. There was a dining table for two and all the dishes, pans, etc. that you need in a kitchen.
The suite had a large work desk with complimentary high speed internet access which connected easily and worked perfectly. There were two corded telephones in the suite. The hotel has Marriott’s On-Command TV services which included a lot of cable channels as well as pay-per-view movies, video games, and music. We only used regular TV, but the movies ranged from $9.99 to $14.99 each.
In the living room area was a queen-size sofa bed, coffee table, and chair. The bedroom had a very comfortable queen-size bed with the new Residence Inn bedding package.
The bath vanity area is off the sleeping area and had a large mirrored wardrobe. The bathroom had a combination tub and shower. There were plenty of towels. Lighting in the suite was excellent.
Housekeeping was great, working around our dog, cat, and parrot and still getting the room clean each day! The room was spotless when we checked in and I am sure there will be no evidence of pets when the next guests check in.
We enjoyed the complimentary breakfast buffet in the gatehouse each morning. Hot items included make-your-own waffles, scrambled eggs, sausage, oatmeal, and rice. There was a good selection of breakfast breads, cereals, juice, and fresh fruit. The coffee was hot and good. We enjoyed chatting with other guests during breakfast. The hotel has a very friendly atmosphere.
Wednesday and Thursday nights we took advantage of the complimentary evening buffet. Wednesday was beef and macaroni and Thursday was vegetable lasagna. Both nights a green salad was offered as well as beer, wine, and soft drinks. The hotel has a “micro market” in the lobby with drinks and snacks, but I had to go across the street to buy milk!
There are many restaurants within a mile of the hotel including our favorite Katella Deli about ½ mile west. They offer a full-service restaurant as well as a take-out counter, deli, and bakery. The hot pastrami sandwich was so good I had it two nights in a row. Just a little further west on Katella is Tony Roma’s for barbecue. Heading east from the hotel are a number of restaurants including Red Robin and El Torito.
There is plenty of parking on all sides of the hotel and multiple entrances to each building. The hotel is four-story with two elevators in each building. The hotel has a nice pool area with a whirlpool spa and plenty of pool towels. There is also a sport court for basket ball. Right off the lobby area is a small exercise room with a weight machine, treadmill, and stair stepper.
We were very happy with our four-night stay at the Residence Inn in Cypress. All of the hotel associates were helpful and friendly, our suite was comfortable, and our pets were welcomed! The best recommendation we can give is that if we need to be out of our home again, we would choose the Residence Inn in Cypress.
