I took this tour in December after reading all the wonderful reviews and was very disappointed. A good tour guide should be able to talk to anyone from anywhere and show them what they love about their city, and according to other reviews this is what I was expecting. We would have got more information from a lonely planet guide. Firstly our guide John did not even bother to ask us our names, despite their only being four of us on his tour. He was continually taking out his camera, filming and taking photos. We actually had to wait for him at Tiffany’s because he was taking photos. At one stage at the famers market we again had to wait for him to finish some personal shopping before being told where we were going next. He was also inappropriate at times, commenting on women he thought were “hot”, and continually told unacceptable stories about other tours he had taken and his own travels (Which I found very offensive and not at all related to what we wanted to talk about) He actually seemed unable to tell us anything useful unless it was about himself! I’m not sure whether it was a clash of cultures or that we didn’t quite get the “LA attitude” but we found ourselves wanting to ditch the tour half way through!!
Read the reviews and make up your own mind. John Yangs LA wasn’t for me.
