You will love this place if you are in Hollywood to see the city. Its isnt a luxury hotel , i mean you can see that by the great price.So if you arnt a pampered poodle you will have a very nice stay.
The staff was so nice. We had to check out a day early because of a death in the family and they didnt give us any problems. I would recomend it to all my friends and fellow travelers.

My son and I wanted to find a budget property located near lots of the must see tourist sites, and near the metro for our five day stay. I chose this one based on the positive reviews I read here and particularly those mentioning the helpfulness of the staff. We were pleased in all respects. We found the room comfortable and clean with a microwave and decent size refrigerator.. The breakfast included fruit, great coffee, orange juice, cereal and pastries. The family that runs the Downtowner were very friendly and helpful -- they were true hosts rather than just hotel employees.

This area of Hollywood Blvd has several closed stores but seemed safe at all hours. Great Thai restaurant within a block. Also coffee shops, small and large groceries, etc. The metro access to Universal Studios was very easy. Really a great location and with our new gps, we were able to get around Los Angeles with no problem. This isn't the Ritz but neither is my house.

For the cost of a room I found this hotel a great place to stay. The rooms lacked nothing were clean and comfortable. There was a swimming pool and free off street parking which for me was important. The hotel is run by a family bussiness and I found them extremely friendly and helpful with information that any stranger to LA would want to ask. If they did not know at the time they would get back later. Use of computer for the net etc. was readily made available at no cost. I found the place quiet and would recommend it to any age group.

The Hollywood Downtowner was probably the most friendly hotel I've ever stayed at... it's a family run business and the front desk staff couldn't have been more helpful. Our room was large and clean, and the complimentary breakfast was excellent compared to most motels. They also didn't have any problem with allowing 4 adults to share the twin queen room (which is a problem we encountered at several other motels in the area).
As for location, it's perhaps not ideal for young females to walk around alone at night, but for mixed groups it's perfect for the Walk of Fame and Chinese Theatre - just a 20-minute stroll away.
I'd definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone I know going to LA in the future.
