I've stayed at this hotel twice early December 2011, then because of that experience in Jan 2012. I had a post-op medical appt in San Francisco, which is 250 miles (6 hr +- drive) from my home. I planned to drive up very early for the late PM/eve appts, but would need to book a hotel for the night, but found everything even remotely acceptable in SF was in the $200 range, so I started searching for affordable, with easy freeway on/off access, within allowable commute from SF, near food. After some research, I settled on Manteca Best Western. I booked online from the Best Western website for less than $80 night. I listed needing non-smoking & needing handrails in bathroom, due to mobility issues & late check-in (Manteca is approx 90 minutes East from San Francisco).
I must admit I didn't have very high expectations. However, from the moment I arrived, dog tired at 10 pm, the staff was fantastic, from the young woman at the 24 hour desk to the maintenence mechanic, to the maid & breakfast room staff, everyone I encountered was courteous, friendly & helpful. The room was VERY CLEAN & WELL LIT. I liked the decor, the only down side was what I often run into a lot in moderately priced & also some high end hotels, no matter what the brand, the feeling of being short-sheeted (the bottom sheet on the bed not being long enough to reach to the the bottom of the top of the bed).
Because of my experience, since that first stay in Dec 2011, I decided to make this my planned lodging whenever I travel to SF & need to find overnight lodging. I've stayed once more in Jan 2012, same experience: good service, clean room & reasonable price. I plan on booking here for my upcoming trip in April. Actually this has been the BEST OVERALL (Staff Courtesy/Responsiveness, Comfort, Room Accessibility, Cleanliness, Quietness, Parking, Decor & Price) Best Western Hotel I've ever stayed in & I have stayed in numerous BWs throughout the California & in various US States & Canada. Others may have outshined in one or two aspects, but usually fell short in others. Give it a try, you may be pleasantly surprised, lke I was.
