We visit Monterey frequently we enjoy the area not to mention the aquarium. We live 2 hours away so we visit once a month for a day trip (we are members of the aquarium). Once in awhile we stay for 2 or 3 days. We have stayed at 4 different hotels prior to this and have been happy with only 1.5 of them, (I say .5 because we stayed at the Hyatt for one night and it happened to be the night a transformer blew out and we sat in the dark for several hours in Dec of 2006, but the hotel was great and the breakfast buffet was incredible).
Our most recent trip was in February, President's Day weekend. This trip was really a last minute thing, we called the Ramada in Marina at 3pm and booked a room for the night. By the time we arrived after packing and driving it was 8pm. The hotel was great, ts away. The room itself was HUGE, it had a king bed, a couch which he lobby was clean and inviting, there was an elevator and a luggage cart for guest use. We were in room 311. When we walked in it blew uwe later found out was a sofa bed, a fridge, a microwave, closet area, two televisions, a table with two chairs and still had a huge open space. The bathroom even had a jacuzzi tub. This was a standard room, not a suite. My 3 year old son fell in love with the room and even my husband said we are staying here again. They also offer a free continental breakfast which is usually some lame muffin or mini danish and juice. Not Ramada, they did have these things, but they also had a waffle iron available for use with pre-poured portions of batter in cups for you to make your own waffle. We paid about $130 for the room, it was a bit more after taxes and such, but very reasonable considering it was President's Day weekend and there was some bike expo going on. We are visiting again in March and already have our reservation at this hotel. We booked a standard king again for $80 per night.
