“Ok, I would stay elsewhere”

Courtyard by Marriott Los Angeles Marina del Rey

Spent 1 month here for work. I was disappointed as the staff, cleanliness and responsiveness of employees here was below typical Courtyard fashion.

Many people including myself complaining about many small things including room service, thiings not working, This is obvioulsy a on-site management problem.

Location is congested and kind of stinks, but it is close to freeway, restaurants, starbucks, dry cleaners,etc..

Expensive location but if you can swing it stay elsewhere for a few bucks more.

Overall, not bad, but not up to Courtyard's typical standards.

A previous reviewer said this Marriott was clean, quiet, and comfortable, and I agree. The Saturday night before Memorial Day weekend, we had trouble finding a hotel room in the L.A. area without a reservation, and we landed one of the last two rooms left in this hotel. A desk clerk checked to see if we could get the AAA discount, and oddly, she said the price came in *higher* with the discount. Given a shortage of rooms, we grabbed this one anyway. BTW, even with the hotel being full, there was plenty of free parking toward the sides and back of the parking lot.

Although the lobby was teeming with children, our room, which overlooked the lobby entrance, was quiet. It was an average-sized hotel room, with no refrigerator or microwave. The front desk requested a refrigerator be brought to the room, which they did at no extra charge. (Some Marriott Courtyards charge $10 for a fridge.)

The room and bathroom were quite clean, except for one missed spot vacuuming the carpet. The bathroom sink is inside the bathroom. Water pressure was good in the bathroom, although the figuring out hot and cold were not intuitive. In the middle of the night, my partner noticed one large cockroach in the bathroom (but fortunately none of its relatives.) In my experience, cockroaches are common in L.A. area hotel bathrooms, so if there's just one, you're luck.

We had two double beds, both of which had quite comfortable pillowtop mattresses and lots of pillows to choose from. My partner said this was the best hotel bed he had ever slept in. (I'd say it was in the top 10%.)

There are a couple of computers in the lobby for which you can use a credit card or charge to the room. I didn't use any of the amenities, there is a decent looking pool and a gym off the lobby that looked better than the old broken down hotel "gyms" I've visited lately.

With taxes and fees, our one night stay came to just under $200. I found this place average to above average. No major complaints. I'd stay here again.

Had a two day conference at Loyola Marymount University, and found the Courtyard by Marriott at Marina del Rey to be a very good choice of accommodation. The location is in the interior of a city block, and some of the traffic noise is blocked by a series of (currently) closed restaurants. Don't worry there are plenty of good places to eat in the area, I especially enjoyed the soup and salad buffet establishment on the other side of Maxilla Avenue called Souplantation. Friday night it was crowded but good salads, good soups, some pastas and dessert for $9.73 including tax, no beverage other than water. There are also two grocery stores in the vicinity, but the hotel rooms, I must caution do not have a fridge or microwave, just coffee-makers. I do not understand why people wondered if the area were "safe"--it was pretty congested, even with pedestrians (a rare sight in parts of Southern California).

The hotel staff were very polite and accommodating. The room was clean and spacious, though the bath was a bit cramped.
I did not use the pool or fitness room, but they were available. There is free wireless internet, and no charge for parking. I did not have a car, and appreciated the fact that the parking lot seems to be a gathering place for the local taxis. I never had to wait for a cab.

The breakfast buffet current cost including coffee etc. and sales tax was $14.02--lots of choices including eggs cooked to order. It was a very satisfactory meal. I could not use it the second morning as on weekends service does not commence until 7:00 am and I had an early flight.

My only complaint--and it could have been a real problem--I had telephoned for an early wakeup call, and it never came! When I asked while checking out, the clerk went to the records and said no call had been entered. For a place that serves business travellers this was an odd glitch.

There were a lot of families and groups staying during the weekend--I was surprised at the amount of noise that could be heard from the corridor on the third floor, but no prank fire alarms or screaming races during the night. It was fine.

You can probably find adequate motel accommodation nearby for a lower price, but I think this was a very good choice.
My overall 4 marking reflects two previous days at an Ayres Hotel (a local family owned chain) with slightly lower prices, nicer and quieter accomodation (tho no bar or full service restaurant) and a very good free breakfast buffet. Courtyard suffers in comparison to that facility, but compared to other Courtyards, I have to like this one.

I was on a medical trip so I wanted a place close to my destination. But I also like it quiet. We checked in early so I specifically asked for a quiet room. We got one - second floor, pool side, facing South. This shielded us from the busy Hwy 1 a block over. The room was fine and the beds comfortable. We especially like the multiple choices of pillows Marriotts provide. There were also free Internet terminals in the lobby.

I don't think the surrounding area is as bad as others have posted. We found it to be just fine - several eating places, grocery store, drug store, etc. without even crossing a street. We found this very convenient. Try Nichols for supper or lunch and Jonnies for coffee and a snack.

But the two day stay was pricey when compared to the stay on the way home at the wonderful new posh JW Marriott Spa & Resort in Las Vegas. The price we paid at the JW was the same as the Courtyard Marina Del Rey.

This hotel is clean, quiet and very comfortable. We were told at check-in that we had a king room b/c we booked on Priceline, but when I pointed out that we were 3 persons, the lady did switch us to a 2 queen room. (She made as if she was doing us a favor by not charging us extra, but I've never had any issues with this at other hotels.) Unfortunately, we were met by several very-obviously-drunk St. Patrick's Day revelers in the hall outside our room (who were a bit forward even though I was traveling with my 2 sons). Still, my biggest concern was that they would continue their loud banter when it got time for bed. Happily, by the time we dropped off our luggage and left the room again, hotel security was already present, having the young men collect their belongings from their room while they awaited the police. (We did not call, so I assume another guest reported them.) The security person was very concerned that they had bothered us, but we assured them no harm was done. We were impressed with the prompt way this was handled. The room was clean and large. A coffee pot and coffee is provided. When I realized we only had decaf, housekeeping was there in a flash with a couple of packets of the real deal. We had a balcony, but there's no view to speak of (see photo). The marina is nearby, but not in view. Parking is free, which is wonderful given charges at other LA hotels. Fresh chocolate chip cookies and beverages were set out in the lobby along with several newspapers for the taking. The area is seems safe and nice, and is very convenient to the airport, marina and Venice Beach. Checkout was fast and easy and all staff members we dealt with were very nice and helpful.
