Our most recent stay was 4 nights for a group of 6 people. We had three rooms (Strauss, Switzer, and Wilson). My review is mostly on the Switzer room, since that is where we slept.
Our room was really cool, both in how it looked and in temp, with lots of light. We both like it a bit on the cooler side and when we opened our windows we got a wonderful cross breeze. We had a window seat on each side of the room, and a big king bed in the middle. We also had a window in our shower which we liked to open when we were in there. The bathroom sink has a nice large basin but no counter, so I used the top section of the "well stocked" utility stand, which worked just fine for me.
This room is on the 3rd floor and looks like a converted attic, so you have slanted ceilings, so watch your head! But we both enjoyed it very much, and at this point is our preferred. It was hard to get my hubby up from the window seat and me out of our cozy bed.
On two of our nights we found it was super easy to light a fire, since it’s all set up and all we had to do was light the starter and - poof - instant fire.
We enjoyed being on the top floor and up over the town with a nice view, it also felt quieter up there too, except for the siren……woohh…if you hear it, cover your head, it’ll go away soon. The eerie sound scared me more than the noise part of it - (active imagination) – but we knew what it was when we heard it from reading the booklet in the room, and we didn’t smell smoke, so we didn’t bother to get up.
I looked forward to those raisin cookies every night and had to hold back, and for my hubby it was the chocolate chip. Tea for me, but hot apple cider for everyone else who say they loved it! They offer quite a large tea selection and if they don’t have what you are looking for, there’s a local store you can go get a blend of your own.
Since there were several of us, they were more than happy to make sure we were comfortable in the parlor during breakfast time, and any other time, since that is where we ate most of our breakfasts as a group. Yup…we took over! But two of our group preffered to eat in their room (strauss), we comented "We were traded for a view..how 'bout that.."
A local sandwich place has good sandwiches and in the evening they are ½ price, green salads were good too…guess what we ate a lot of?
Nice people, cozy place, good food, good conversation, goodies, very clean rooms and bathrooms…..= 6 content and relaxed people.
Next visit…spring time.
Do leave plenty of time if you are flying into and out of Oakland, at least 4-5 hours to not be rushed.
