“Y'know it aint' bad. Actually, it's quite nice.”
O.K., so, take a fab view of the Pacific, add a nice little main house with all the amenities a boy could want including telescope, coffee all day, and a lending library full of books, video tapes, and some musical cd's, a garden with more varieties of "what the heck is that flower?, with cozy comfy cottages and a pair of owners as unobtrusive as they are helpful if you needed them.......and what more could you want? A hot tub? No need, use the hydro tub in your room.
I spent three very memorable nights at The Agate Cove Inn, which surprised me, as I usually hate kitsch. B and B's are all about kitsch, right? This one wasn't so kitschy as to spoil my visit. Our cabin had both comfy bed and seating area that were both fine for night time sleep and that mid-day nap. The bathroom was right on the mark in modernity and cleanliness.
The decor did not overwhelm the dimensions of the cottage despite the fact that everything I could have wanted, from cd player to vhs player, coffeemaker, some random cereal boxes in case you got middle of the night muchies to an air cleaner plugged discretely in a wall socket. were stuffed in there. An air cleaner in Mendocino! If the air ain't clean here, it ain't clean anywhere. I checked the anodes on the air cleaner an easy spot to miss in housekeeping....totally clean!
Breakfasts are supposed to be half the reason you stay at a bed and breakfast, right? This breakfast was totally fine if not outstanding. It was varied from day to day. It didn't qualify as gourmet, but I can't complain. I loved lingering over coffee with the interesting, sophisticated and varied guests who had found this wonderful place.
This location is about 2 minutes from town and can be easily accessed from either exit from the main highway into Mendocino. It is well laid out, very peaceful, clean, and curious as B and B's should be, without being even the slightest bit weird or strange as some B and B's are. Y'know the choice of books, the movies....the earthenware.
All reviews are supposed to have some negative criticism, right. I guess I had two. Firstly, I found this property more charming than Mendocino town itself which has a bit of the rubber dagger and ice cream cone feel to it. Secondly, and this was the biggy, I had to leave before I was ready to do so. Just a few more days would have been perfect. If I were back in Mendocino, I'd go back in a heartbeat.
