My wife and I just spent a couple of days at Agate Cove and came away relaxed and refreshed. The grounds were beautifully maintained. The breakfast was wonderful and the staff very courteous and helpful in pointing out fun and interesting things to do in and around Mendocino. The room, Obsidian, was nicely decorated and the bed very comfortable. The little diary is a nice touch, allowing the guests to record a memory of their stay.
All in all a must stay in Mendocino

We stayed in the Amber. The view from the room was beautiful, the grounds were gorgeous, the breakfast was very good and the inkeepers were very nice. Our room however was a disapointment. There was a musky, dirty smell that lingered no matter how much we tried to air it out. Overall it was in disrepair, especially the bathroom. The sink didn't drain, the towel bars had been re-hung numerous times and still falling down, there was peeling cualking in the shower and old smelly linoleum, missing screws in the switch plates. The bed was springy and the pillows like pancakes. The location of the Inn is not optimal. It is sandwiched between Highway 1 and Lansing St. We were disappointed to fall asleep and wake up to the sound of traffic instead of the waves. We have stayed at many other Bed and Breakfasts in the area that are far more worth the money.

We absolutely agree with your review and we have been working non stop on upgrading all of the cottages since purchasing the inn. The Amber cottage has been enlarged and now has a luxurious new bathroom that includes a Jacuzzi tub for two, separate shower, new closet, microwave, refrigerator. All but one of our cottages has an ocean view. Even the bathroom in the Amber cottage has an ocean view. We know you will love the remodeled Amber cottage.

We enjoyed a delightful two days at this inn and could have stayed many more. The view is amazing and the rooms are set up to take advantage of it. We stayed in two different rooms (Obsidian and Sunstone) because of availability at the time of the booking. We were so impressed and would return in a heartbeat! I

I'm not a big B&B fan, preferring to stay in hotels, but I found Agate Cove an exception. It's a wonderful place and I'd stay there again in a second. My wife and I stayed a weekend there in July and we weren't eager to leave. The cottage we stayed in was very clean and comfortable and quiet, and I felt at home there. It had a TV and VCR, and we watched a couple good movies from the video collection of the place. The bed was very comfortable, the bathroom clean and modern, and the view was pretty good. It's very quiet there. I thought I'd be bothered by its proximity to the road and Hwy 1, but I wasn't. The owners are very friendly and engaging, and committed. We stayed in a couple other B&B's on our trip and the owners there weren't much around. These owners are, and they tend to the place carefully. It has a very good view of the ocean and cliffs, though we didn't benefit from that much due to the fog most of the time. It's very close to Mendocino without being in the quirky town, the best of both worlds. The best B&B I've stayed in and highly recommend.

O.K., so, take a fab view of the Pacific, add a nice little main house with all the amenities a boy could want including telescope, coffee all day, and a lending library full of books, video tapes, and some musical cd's, a garden with more varieties of "what the heck is that flower?, with cozy comfy cottages and a pair of owners as unobtrusive as they are helpful if you needed them.......and what more could you want? A hot tub? No need, use the hydro tub in your room.

I spent three very memorable nights at The Agate Cove Inn, which surprised me, as I usually hate kitsch. B and B's are all about kitsch, right? This one wasn't so kitschy as to spoil my visit. Our cabin had both comfy bed and seating area that were both fine for night time sleep and that mid-day nap. The bathroom was right on the mark in modernity and cleanliness.

The decor did not overwhelm the dimensions of the cottage despite the fact that everything I could have wanted, from cd player to vhs player, coffeemaker, some random cereal boxes in case you got middle of the night muchies to an air cleaner plugged discretely in a wall socket. were stuffed in there. An air cleaner in Mendocino! If the air ain't clean here, it ain't clean anywhere. I checked the anodes on the air cleaner an easy spot to miss in housekeeping....totally clean!

Breakfasts are supposed to be half the reason you stay at a bed and breakfast, right? This breakfast was totally fine if not outstanding. It was varied from day to day. It didn't qualify as gourmet, but I can't complain. I loved lingering over coffee with the interesting, sophisticated and varied guests who had found this wonderful place.

This location is about 2 minutes from town and can be easily accessed from either exit from the main highway into Mendocino. It is well laid out, very peaceful, clean, and curious as B and B's should be, without being even the slightest bit weird or strange as some B and B's are. Y'know the choice of books, the movies....the earthenware.

All reviews are supposed to have some negative criticism, right. I guess I had two. Firstly, I found this property more charming than Mendocino town itself which has a bit of the rubber dagger and ice cream cone feel to it. Secondly, and this was the biggy, I had to leave before I was ready to do so. Just a few more days would have been perfect. If I were back in Mendocino, I'd go back in a heartbeat.
