My husband and I stayed there over Memorial Day weekend, and the weather was pretty good, although a bit overcast. The MacCallum House is very conveniently located, within walking distance to the entire (small) downtown area. The breakfast included with the room is extremely good, with a variety of choices from the menu (the restaurant also serves the public, not just the hotel guests). You also receive a $7/per person/per day credit for the bar or restaurant, which is nice, since the restaurant for dinner/drinks is a little pricey. These amenities help defray the cost of the rooms, which are high, but actually a bit less than others in the area (hey, it is Mendocino, after all).
The property is beautifully landscaped and apparently includes the main house, several cottages (where we stayed) and another section a block or so away, according to the website, which we didn't actually see. Parking was a bit tricky, untill we figured out we could park in the back right next to our cottage since it was unmarked in the back.
Overall, it was a nice stay. The only thing I could say that is partially "negative" is that our room was pretty small (the fireplace, while welcome, made the room even smaller). We did have a hot tub in the back yard, however, there was no access directly from the room to the tub, i.e., we had to go out through the front door to get to the enclosed, gated hot tub area. This is not really a big deal, but I think it would have been nicer to have direct access from the room so we didn't have to parade around the common areas in our swimsuits.
But I shouldn't complain too much, because Mendocino is just beautiful!
