My husband and I stayed at the Packard in Nov to celebrate our anniversary. The house is beautifully furnished and immaculate. The breakfast was truly delicious - the highlight of our Mendocino dining. Stayed in the Pacific room, which had a nice view of the ocean. Mendocino was beautiful. Good hiking and very relaxing. I would highly recommend this bed and breakfast.

“Beautiful, Modern Inn in a Quiet Town”

This is everything your typical B&B is not -- modern, sophisticated, and fresh -- and it's all the better for it. We stayed in the Pacific View room, which was very nicely sized and outfitted with a small flat screen TV in the armoire, a large two-person soaking tub, separate shower, and a huge, plush king bed. The fireplace, though a nice touch, did not get any use, because a) the exhaust fan produced a bit too much noise and b) the room was warm enough without the fan. As some of the other reviewers have noted, the view of the Pacific is distant, but it is a view nonetheless.

The common areas of the Inn, which are very well kept, look like a Restoration Hardware catalog and include two separate sitting areas, one with a fireplace.

We thought about staying at an inn fronting the Pacific, but went with the Packard House because the quality of the rooms looked better, and just as importantly, the thought of staying at a place that required a drive anytime we wanted to eat or shop seemed rather silly. The Packard House is just a couple blocks from the restaurants, shops, and Mendocino Headlands park, it might be a better option for those looking for a bit more action. Nevertheless, those looking for more nature (read: stunning view) might want to look elsewhere.

We give this Inn four rather than five stars because we thought the quality of the breakfasts and wine hour was just not up to snuff. You have the option of taking a full breakfast downstairs at a communal table (which we had some reservations about) or a continental breakfast in your room. We ended up doing the full breakfast one day and the continental the other. Surprisingly, we found the continental to be a better breakfast than the full, though neither option wowed us, and seeing as this is a bed and BREAKFAST, one aspect of the experience was lacking. The wine hour, though serviceable, did not include anything more substantial than olives, crackers, wasabi peas. We have been to other inns of this quality that have more substantial offerings, like cheese and fruit.

Despite our incomplete satisfaction with the breakfasts, we would wholeheartedly recommend the Packard House for folks looking for a luxurious, modern inn in an old-fashioned town.

My girlfriend and I recently stayed at the Packard House to celebrate her birthday. The website was the main draw in booking this property and I can tell you we were not disappointed. Upon arrival, a chilled bottle of champagne was waiting in our room to celebrate her birthday. The attentiveness and effort of the staff was exceptional as they even booked last minute dinner reservations for us. The location of the property was perfectly situated in the village and we were able to walk everywhere. This was our first trip to Mendocino and we will be going back to the Packard House. Our stay was everything we wanted and more.

We were relunctant to stay at a B&B to celebrate our 1 year wedding anniversary because the typical victorian style atmosphere wasn't our scene. But after coming upon the Packard House website and seeing the modern interior design of the whole inn, we knew we found the perfect place to stay. Packard House turned out to be everything we expected and more!

The Pacific View room was very nice -- from the comfortable bedding/linens and luxurious bathroom (plus 2 person jetted tub!); to the fireplace, flatscreen tv, and distant view of the ocean. Although the view of the ocean isn't comparable to if you stayed on an ocean front property, considering its location, the view was definitely good enough. Packard House even gave us a complimentary bottle of wine because it was our anniversary!....talk about above and beyond!

The downstairs was beautiful as well -- endless modern touches all around! I would seriously love to have their interior decorator do my house. Breakfast was also very delicious and the presentation was impressive!! We tried both the 2-course served in the dining room as well as the breakfast basket to the room. Both were great! For our 2-course breakfast, we were served a Peach Crumble, and then an Eggs Benedict. The breafkast basket is a nice option if you want to sleep in a little longer and have breakfast in bed. Not very many other B&B (or none that I know of) give you this convenient option for breakfast.

The location of Packard House is perfect as well -- the unique shops and delicious restaurants of Mendocino are all around you and the beautiful Headlands for that nice and relaxing stroll along the water is less than a 5 minute walk away. You can really just park your car and leave it there for your whole stay.

My husband and I completely loved our stay at Packard House and will definitely return soon! Stay here if you want a modern style B&B! You won't regret it!

“Great stay in Mendo!”

Packard House

Having just returned from Mendocino, I wanted to let other travelers know about this great little B&B in the village. Within walking distance of all of the shops and restaurants, Packard House provided the perfect base for our relaxing weekend away. When we'd had our fill of shopping and eating, we spent a number of hours at the Inn; either in our room or downstairs in the main salon. Early each evening the proprieters would leave out snacks and wine for the guests which was a nice touch. Our second night there we stayed downstairs for a couple of hours just reading and relaxing.

Our room (Garden Court) was comfortable, if a bit small, but the bathroom more than made up for that. My only "complaint" is that there is currently no garden view from this room as they seem to be adding on rooms to the back of the inn. This didn't matter too much however since (1) if we wanted views, we walked down to the village to look at the beautiful coast and (2) there was no work noise.

All in all, the Packard House is a great Inn and one that I will definitely be recommending to friends/family visiting the area.
