It's no Ritz-Carlton. But you'll not find any habitable room on the peninsula for close to this price!

Yes, the parking is cramped. If you drive a honking SUV, good luck. Our CR-V was fine, though.

Yes, the walls are very thin. You can carry on a conversation through the wall if you want to.

The pillows and mattresses aren't as nice as yours at home. Might want to bring your own pillow, and earplugs.

But it has a fridge and coffee maker. The room is plenty big. The shower is hot. The neighborhood is fine. The location is central. And the money you'll save is incredible.

This was, by far, the worse experienc I have ever had staying in a motel. The employees were rude beyond my comprehension.

Upon entering the lobby I could barely stomach the stench of curried lamb billowing out of the manager's apartment -- attached to the lobby.

Checking in was relatively painful, but the room was horrid. Tiny, smelly and out dated! Perhaps that's what I get when I booked the room for $35/night online. It was pretty apparent that the front desk staff didn't like the low rate I had gotten.

Nonetheless, these people handled themselves in a very unprofessional way. They interrupted us in our room at a late hour to "get a deposit or call the police and have us removed!"

As I said before, I have NEVER encountered anything like this. I think it was really extortion -- but, I paid a cash deposit and cancelled our reservation for the next night and left promptly in the morning.

What a nightmare!

We made online advanced reservations at Padre Oaks. They were rude & short while checking in. The room was small, the walls were thin, the bed was uncomfortable. When we retuned home, we noticed on our credit card statment that we had an additional charge from Padre Oaks that we were unaware of. We called to ask them to explain, and also reinburse us for the charge. Honestly, we figured they would say sorry for the mistake; however the rudeness continued. They made up a story that we broke the coffee pot. So, ridiculous!! Our credit card company is in dispute over the charge at this time.
Think again before staying here. The price sounds good, but when they charge your credit card for no reason.. the room will end up costing you a lot more. Ironically, I noticed that on other sites people have reported similar situations that have happened to them.

I travel a lot for work, so I'm used to varying levels of comfort in hotels. I couldn't sleep on the rock-hard bed and paper-thin pillows. My wife and I were there for three nights and I ended up in the car by the end of the third night because my back hurt so much from the uncomfortable bed/pillow. No clock, no A/C (not usually a problem in Monterey, but there was NO air circulation). The location was actually pretty good, within walking distance of the downtown area, but I will never stay at the Padre Oaks again. Not worth the money.
