We arrived at the Monterey Downtown Travelodge about 6 pm on Tuesday night, just before Thanksgiving. This was just as the website described it. The pictures are accurate representations of accommodations and of location.
We had room 312, with two queens. Parking was a piece of cake, now on a busy night, this parking would be problematic, but apparently they also have underground parking.(we did not need to use that). The elevator was efficient, and we got to the third floor no problem. When I opened the door, I was prepared for the funky “mildew” smell, others had commented on. We brought candles, so that was ok.
Its an older hotel, obviously, and near the water…so I was not surprised. The bathroom was small, but adequate, with a stand up shower, no tub.( I saw previous reviews abut not having a tub, and thought who baths in a hotel anyway…I prefer to shower) A small changing area, with a coffee maker (not a hotplate), a safe, and a luggage stand. The T.V was a larger , flat screen, with satellite ( I think)and I missed it at first. I thought NO TV? That would have been fine by me, but not the husband.
It is just off Highway-1 in Monterey, walking distance to the Monterey Conference Center, Fisherman's Wharf, a ton of local restaurants, bookstores and movie theaters, and a short drive to Cannery Row, the Monterey Bay Aquarium.
There are closer places to these attractions, but with a price tag to match. We walked to them all and enjoyed it. The area around the Travelodge has a gas station adjacent, so if you get the munchies, you don’t have far to go. Denny's is just across the way, and on your way put, the P.C.H. connects less than a block up.
They also have a heated outdoor pool, the ice machine is on the bottom floor, near the elevator, and the front desk can supply various toiletries if you forget something. The Continental Breakfast was always available in a timely manner. I did not care for the juice, though….
This is a good place to stay. Clean, affordable, and in a good location. If your spoiled and want 4 star, then stay at a 4 star….if you want to enjoy Monterey and not go broke, this is a good place for you….
