“Good one night stay”

We spent one night here on our way down the Californian coast. It has free wireless, free ample parking, and free cable tv.

Our room was clean, quite big and comfortable and the bathroom was nice. However, the decor needs updating, it was quite ugly. There were also large gaps around the door which was flimsy so we didn't feel very secure. I would wonder if the room would be freeszing cold in the winter months with the wind blowing through the full inch ga underneath the door. Having said that the area seemed ok and we didn't hear any noise at night.

The reception staff were nice, the pool area looked clean and the free continental breakfast was pretty good.

Overall, it was an ok stay, it was handy for us driving through and a bargain price. Though if you have time I would suggest looking elsewhere for something slightly nicer.

Booked through AAA at a great price for July at Monterey.

Security: Area seems to be in a safe area. Had security at night, with underground parking lot which is closed at night. There is someone at the desk 24 hours.

Check In: Very easy. Noted that even though I made reservation some time ago, my credit card was not charged until I completed my stay. Desk personnel very knowledgable and helpful.

Parking: Parking is a little limited, but there is enough with the underground garage. Handicapped available. Some a little far from rooms.

Rooms: Very clean and facilities are new and updated, even though this is clearly an older property. Rooms were being updated during our stay, and they desk said they are constantly updating the property and rooms. Facility is newly painted. Room was wallpapered throughout in beiges, the curtains and bedspread were done in a very nice blue/green combo with shells and fishes. The single bed rooms are a little smaller than the two bed rooms. Room was very clean and kept that way during our stay. Thought at first there was a little two much furniture in our room which had bed, two chairs, table, desk, dresser, but wound up using all the furniture. Had heating/air cond which was a new system and worked just fine. Curtains insured privacy. Ice is on the first floor and there is soda machine on the first floor. Would have enjoyed a "goodie" machine also. Had end room near street which is right next to a bus stop. Was a little nosy at times, especially some of the tour bus speakers (actually funny). They are hoping to fix this by replacing the windows soon. Plenty of light in room. Room did not have tub, only shower. Not sure if they have any tubs, but shower was fine. Sink in bathroom, was very cutely decorated with folded towels and tissues. There is a breakfast each morning, but as we are late sleepers, did not make it. Other guests said it was good. Pool is smallish, especially area under 5 ft. Would be nice if larger.

Location: Fairly near all attractions in Monterey, although not walking distance unless you like to walk 5- 6 blocks. Has Dennys accross street and a convenience store. Gas station next to motel. Motel was easy to find. Stands out.

“Suprisingly comfy and nice”

Travelodge Monterey Downtown

19 Jul 2008

Stayed there for a conference. Honestly picked it because it was cheap, but the beds were really comfortable. The staff was very nice and accomodating, even allowing us a really late check-out on our last day. Cereal and coffee available all hours--even 3 AM. Was a little put off by the lime green exterior, but overall, a very pleasant place to stay. Location was excellent--near nightlife, but quiet. Easy walk to Fishermans Wharf. Would stay there again--excellent value.

“Great Location, but not the hotel we hoped for”

My husband and I were visiting the area to run the Big Sur Marathon. This hotel was listed on the marathon's website and we chose it because it was the cheapest option. My friends, you get what you pay for.

First, I must say the staff (front desk and housekeeping) were awesome--very kind, helpful and accommodating. The lobby area was modern and clean and the breakfast was great. I especially appreciated the fact that they put the breakfast out EARLY on race day. Typically it's served at 6am, but since we had to be at the starting line long before then they staff made sure we had bagels and coffee. That was awesome.

But the negatives were hard to swallow.... The room always felt damp, even with the AC on. The carpet kind of stuck to your feet and was really dirty. The corners of the restroom were very dirty and the sink counter looked like it was going to fall off the wall. It was hard for me to relax because I kept wondering if the bed linens were really clean, what I was stepping on, etc.

Bottom line, next time we'll pay the extra $10-20/night to be in a nicer place.
