We chose to spend a night in Morro Bay before visiting Hearst Castle while driving up the CA coast from LA to San Fran last week. We were accompanied by our 2 teenaged grandsons and knew they would be interested in the great rock at Morro Bay and also wanted them to see a real fishing village. The Embarcadero Inn looked like a good choice for a place to stay, based on the reviews on this site. It all proved to be true and if others complained about a bad odor we surely did NOT find that to be the case. Our rooms were great and the owners seem to have thought of providing every possible amenity.

We would love to return on another occasion and have already recommended this Inn to our CA friends who travel this route frequently. It's only a short drive from here to Hearst Castle and no doubt worth staying here more than one night. We wish that our schedule had permitted that. There is much to see and do in Morro Bay.....such as fishing, biking, and eating at the great seafood restaurants.

We visited this quaint motel in 1991, and loved it then. My wife and I were left scratching our heads wondering why hadn't we come back in all those years.

We checked out a couple of the rooms including our own. We found them clean, and the decor is fine. The staff was extremely friendly and informative--this includes the housekeepers.

The views of the bay from most rooms are beautiful, particularly of Morro Rock. The continental breakfast was good--always well stocked with cereal, bagels, coffee.

There is plenty of accessibility for walking, biking and by car. The staff allowed me to store my bike in my room, but clearly, Morro Bay is not a high crime town...I could have left my bike stored on the carrier of my car.

Morro Rock and Beach are a 10-15 minute walk away, while Morro Bay State Park (with it's interactive Museum of Natural History--$2.00) about a 20-25 minute walk--better to ride or drive there. Hearst Castle is about a 30min drive away.

The Inn also offers nice discounts to the area gym (nice facility) and kayaking. We took advantage of both.

All in all, we were extremely pleased with our experience at The Embarcadero Inn.

By the way, I inadvertently left some clothing in a closet, and Cindy at the front desk was as genial as she was prompt in getting it mailed to me.

Sincerely,

Rich from Morgan Hill, California

So Ca, but wishing I was in the Caribbean!

We booked this due to reviews from this website. It is right on the front street that parallels the bay. The staff was very friendly. The room was clean but did have a little musty smell to it. I will agree the decor is a little outdated, but no big deal, still in good shape. Rooms have a coffee maker and bachelor fridge. We had a room with the partial view. Very peaceful place. We saw some of the other hotel/motels in the city and were glad we stayed here. Breakfast, in the breakfast room with a great view of Morro Bay and Morro Rock, consisted of the following: Coffee, Milk, Apple & Orange juice, cereal, cinnamon roles, muffins, bagels, toast and hot water to make oatmeal & hot chocolate..enough to get you started for the day. Overall, it was a nice, very clean and well kept place to stay, just don't come with ambitions of a Marriott and you won't be disappointed.

My husband and I found this hotel to be great. It is a very good bargain for the price too. They had just remodeled before we arrived and the new carpeting and furniture are beautiful. We loved the big continental breakfast with bagels and jam, yogurt, and hot and cold cereal very filling. We received a senior discount of 20% off as well. If you like quiet then this is the place to stay. We walked up to Rosa's landing for a great dinner on their deck which we liked as well. By the way, we both said we have never been greated with such warmth and friendliness while traveling as we did with the girls at the Embarcadero Inn. We needed an extra blanket and it was brought right up. By the way don't miss the car window cleaners in the parking lot! And pick up an apple on your way out the door. I fully recommend this hotel and next time we will bring our entire family to kayak across the street.
