Stayed in room with balcony that was too small to put a chair on. overlooked parking lot with car alarm systems going off at 2AM, jolting me from my sleep. Could hear people above us walking around all night. The hot tub can only be used from 4pm to 930 pm. I asked to use it at 2pm & was told I could not because it was on a timer? The free breakfast could have had more selection. The room had been remodeled, except for carpeting that looked old with cigarette burns in it. Hbo advertised but did not have on TV. Overall, would not stay again.

We had a fairly nice stay here, but will never return because the manager was so inflexible. We were supposed to meet family for the weekend, but they got sick. When we called up to cancel our reservation, two days before, he would not cancel it for us. He said that there is a 72 hr rule, and he wouldn't budge on it.

The hotel was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was better than many continental breakfasts (nothing spectacular though). The room and bathroom were dark. Even though I saw people using the hot tub, I never would because it is basically a fishbowl surrounded by the hallways and doors to all the rooms, it would make me pretty uncomfortable. I really liked that they had covered parking since it was raining when we arrived. It is in walking distance to many shops and restaurants, which was nice.

I had to stay two nights here mainly because I got sick eating oysters at the Great American Fish place on the water. I was very annoyed as check out time was 11am and the manager refused to hold the room for 3 hours while I tried to decide whether I'd stopped hurling and was fit to drive on to Monterey. He made me pay an extra days fee claiming staffing costs even though he'd admitted the hotel was pretty much empty and it was very quiet. They must know people talk on websites like this and incidents like that will be publicised so a bit of flexibility and customer service wouldn't have gone a miss. The Monterey Bay Lodge felt so sorry for me they didn't charge me for arriving a day late and were very sympathetic - Now there's customer service for you!

The room was nice and clean, better than I expected, especially I had read some bad reviews here.But I agree with other reviewer here that the room rate is little too high.No microwave oven nor refrigerator our room. We asked the front desk if we could use a microwave oven to warm our food, he said he couldn't find one, but the next morning, we saw a microwave oven in the breakfast room! The pillows were uncomfortable. The motel was close after 9:30 PM and no one at the front desk after then. There was one thing I like, a computer in the lobby to let you check e-mail for free. Apparently, they try to reduce the management cost by cutting the services. It is kind of acceptable to me, but the problem is that they don't cut the room rate at the same time!
