We were enjoying a trip up the Pacific Coast as part of a 14 night trip around California, and decided to stay in Morro Bay for the night. After being quoted some daft prices ($130 plus) for standard looking motel rooms, apparently "because it's friday...", we stumbled across the Morro Crest, still only two blocks from the sea front.
The lady in the office was very friendly and offered us a choice of double rooms for $65 plus tax. One was a little 'interestingly' decorated, but the one we picked, upstairs, was nicely decorated in a pine theme. The room was clean and tidy, decently sized, and was perfectly comfortable. We were also given a helpful map of the town showing where all the useful facilities are, along with the infamous 'rock'!
We dined a short walk away from the hotel, where there is a selection of restaurants, and we enjoyed tasty local seafood whilst watching a lovely sunset.
If I am ever in that part of the world again, I would have no hesitation staying at the Morro Crest.
