Lets see--words that adequately describe this room: sleezy, hole, dump, dive--you get the picture. We were in town to attend an event of some friends, and the dates just happened to coincide with Morro Bay Harbor Days--which meant that 1-all the hotels in town were charging top rates for rooms over the weekend and 2-many of the hotels were already booked. This was the only hotel that we could find for less than $150 (we paid $85 on Friday night and $125 on Saturday night). We got stuck in LA traffic on the way and realized we were going to arrive late. Our reservation printout said to call if you were arriving after 8:30 pm. We called the hotel and they told us that they closed the office at 9:30 pm but they would arrange for someone to stay a little while but we absolutely had to arrive by 10:00 pm. We hustled and just barely made it. From outside the hotel, things didn't look too bad, and we were hopeful that the room would be okay. Eeeek! Not so.

The beds, chairs and carpets were all stained. We always travel with our own air-mattress and bedding which we put on top of the hotel bed. We were especially glad we didn't have to touch theirs. We were on the bottom floor. There was no air conditioner. It was a little stuffy, so we were glad we had windows that opened, though we were concerned about safety with them open (though it wasn't much more secure with them closed). We had a large windowon each side of the bedroom and a small window in the bathroom. One big window looked out onto the parking lot and the other big window and the bathroom window looked onto the street behind the motel. Only one of the windows had a lock. One of the window panes wasn't even attached to the frame, it was just hanging loose. The screens had all been pulled and bent (it looks like someone had broken in previously), they weren't attached and offered no security. The entry door looked like at one point it had been kicked in. There was a gapping hole around the frame. The door had settled, so the deadbolt would not lock without lifting and pushing the door until the lock lined up. Some of the walls had been patched, but the paint didn't match.

The bathroom was more of the same. Old fixtures. Every single metal surface had some degree of rust or corrosion. The bathtub was stained and chipped. The linens were threadbare. There was no shampoo in the room, but when we called the front desk, we were given 3 single use packets.

When we checked in, we were told that they served Danishes in the morning, but we chose other places for breakfast (we highly recommend Kitty's Kitchen on Main Street). You have a good view of Morro Rock and the bay from the front of the hotel. This motel is very conveniently located. It is a short half a block to the waterfront. I assure you that is a good thing because you won't want to spend any more time than necessary in your room.

We stayed here as part of a trip from SF to LA, and we chose the Best Value Inn as at $39 plus tax, it just could not be beaten on price. Check in staff was friendly and the room ok for the price, it was quite old and worn but clean. The location was excellent, only a few minutes walk to the waterfront restaurants and close to the Morro Rock beach (excellent beach for surfing, never got crowded).
It wasn't the Ritz, but if you are not planning to spend the whole day in your room but rather just need a place to crash, you cant get better value than this!

Thought that $130 a night would get a reasonable room but apparently the fact that it was a holiday weekend was reason enough for the proprietors to charge probably double of what the room was worth.

3 homeless-looking guys were rolling a joint in the parking lot when we arrived but at least they were quieter than the all-night party that was in the room next door.

Walls are paper-thin and we could hear our neighbors both to the side and above us. Bathroom window in room 14 wouldn't lock. Blankets were holey and box spring was stained with who knows what down the sides. Thankfully the peepholes in the bathroom were stuffed with kleenex so the group of Clydesdale horses that was staying next door - or whoever was stomping around all night - couldn't get a gander of us taking a shower or using the WC.

On our way down the coast we have slept here for a night. It was the cheapest we've stayed in throughout our californian trip. It's close by to the coast and some restaurants there. For the price, you shouldn't expect any frills, but if you are on a budget, this will be it in Morro.

“Rundown and Noisy, but Cheap”

This place seems to be the cheapest place to stay in Morro Bay, which is very pricey on summer weekends. The price is good, and it is just a short walk from the harbor, which is nice. However, it is very rundown. The first room I was assigned to reeked of dogs and other things you don't want your room to reek of. I asked to be moved and got another room, which was much cleaner but still pretty ratty - rusty fixtures in the shower, uneven paint on the walls, pilly blankets, some stains on the towels, and so on. The main problem, though, was the noise. The walls are very thin. We could hear everything going on in the rooms below us, on either side of us, and outside in the parking lot. This was particularly bad since most people staying there seemed to be under age 10 and were up being noisy quite late. I complained to management but nothing was done. So if you value your sleep, it might be worth paying the extra money for another hotel.
