We stayed one night as a stop off on the way back from San Fransisco to Vegas. Being on a budget "Road trip", I selected this motel for its price. I was uncertain what to expect, having read the reviews. The hotel wasn't Luxourious - but it did the job. The Bedroom part was absoloutely fine (Its Possibly been redecorated?). The bathroom was definitely a bit dated - but OK and clean. We didn't have any problem with noise. There are plenty of places to eat nearby as the Water-front is just around the corner. Certainly - only a place for a one-night stay.

As many people do, I chose this place because of the price. I pre-booked 5 nights with expedia and stayed for two. The first night I moved rooms because of the noise (the walls are super-thin). The second night I woke up about two AM. My bed was riddles with ticks. I packed my things and left right then. The hotel took payment from Expedia for the full five nights, but have not refunded the rest as promised. I have been hounding them for almost three weeks.

My brother and I and our families (wife and child each) recently completed a 32-night tour of the United States. We all agree that the Best Value Inn Morro Bay was close to, if not, the worst place we stayed both in terms of room quality and value for money. My wife, young daughter and I stayed in an upstairs room which was in very poor condition. The carpets were heavily soiled and the walls, doors etc. were stained and dirty. The most serious issue was the thinness of the walls, which resulted in our getting little sleep thanks to the "activities" of the couple in the next room. Thank goodness our 3 year old is a sound sleeper. My brother and his family were forced to endure a smoking room, which while quieter (more by good luck than thicker walls), left them feeling nauseated by daybreak. We only stayed at this motel as we had not booked ahead and it was the last place available with two rooms. Morro Bay is a lovely town, but I would strongly recommend staying elsewhere if you want your stay to be a pleasant one.

Lets see--words that adequately describe this room: sleezy, hole, dump, dive--you get the picture. We were in town to attend an event of some friends, and the dates just happened to coincide with Morro Bay Harbor Days--which meant that 1-all the hotels in town were charging top rates for rooms over the weekend and 2-many of the hotels were already booked. This was the only hotel that we could find for less than $150 (we paid $85 on Friday night and $125 on Saturday night). We got stuck in LA traffic on the way and realized we were going to arrive late. Our reservation printout said to call if you were arriving after 8:30 pm. We called the hotel and they told us that they closed the office at 9:30 pm but they would arrange for someone to stay a little while but we absolutely had to arrive by 10:00 pm. We hustled and just barely made it. From outside the hotel, things didn't look too bad, and we were hopeful that the room would be okay. Eeeek! Not so.

The beds, chairs and carpets were all stained. We always travel with our own air-mattress and bedding which we put on top of the hotel bed. We were especially glad we didn't have to touch theirs. We were on the bottom floor. There was no air conditioner. It was a little stuffy, so we were glad we had windows that opened, though we were concerned about safety with them open (though it wasn't much more secure with them closed). We had a large windowon each side of the bedroom and a small window in the bathroom. One big window looked out onto the parking lot and the other big window and the bathroom window looked onto the street behind the motel. Only one of the windows had a lock. One of the window panes wasn't even attached to the frame, it was just hanging loose. The screens had all been pulled and bent (it looks like someone had broken in previously), they weren't attached and offered no security. The entry door looked like at one point it had been kicked in. There was a gapping hole around the frame. The door had settled, so the deadbolt would not lock without lifting and pushing the door until the lock lined up. Some of the walls had been patched, but the paint didn't match.

The bathroom was more of the same. Old fixtures. Every single metal surface had some degree of rust or corrosion. The bathtub was stained and chipped. The linens were threadbare. There was no shampoo in the room, but when we called the front desk, we were given 3 single use packets.

When we checked in, we were told that they served Danishes in the morning, but we chose other places for breakfast (we highly recommend Kitty's Kitchen on Main Street). You have a good view of Morro Rock and the bay from the front of the hotel. This motel is very conveniently located. It is a short half a block to the waterfront. I assure you that is a good thing because you won't want to spend any more time than necessary in your room.

We stayed here as part of a trip from SF to LA, and we chose the Best Value Inn as at $39 plus tax, it just could not be beaten on price. Check in staff was friendly and the room ok for the price, it was quite old and worn but clean. The location was excellent, only a few minutes walk to the waterfront restaurants and close to the Morro Rock beach (excellent beach for surfing, never got crowded).
It wasn't the Ritz, but if you are not planning to spend the whole day in your room but rather just need a place to crash, you cant get better value than this!
