I was introduced to Trefethen by Sarah through Napa Valley Wine Guides. Trefethen is a hidden gem which seemed tucked away from the crowds. The wineries building was designated a national historic landmark. Trefethen seemed to have to the wine tasting process nailed. You have to pay a cover charge “wine tasting fee” at the door before evening entering the winery. It cost $25 for reserve wine tasting and $15 for Estate wine tasting. Even if you purchase any wine you still need to pay for wine tasting. I believe that if you purchase wine from the winery, your wine tasting fees should be complimentary or refunded. However the experience and atmosphere of tasting the wins Trefethen is still worth the wine tasting fee. I was able to help myself to awesome good size pours of the Cabernet Sauvignon Trefethen when the staff went looking!! I really liked the Dragon's Tooth Red Wine. The 2008 Dragon's Tooth received 94 point accolade from Wine Enthusiast. I also liked the 2008 Trefethen Malbec which seems to be sold out. Another lovely wine and fantastic discovery at Trefethen was the 2010 Quandary. The Quandary 2010 is wonderful white blend of Chardonnay, Riesling and Viognier. You need to ask to try the 2010 Quandary if you purchased the reserve wine tasting package. You might be missing out on the best white wine for summer this year. If I remember I heard rumors that Trefethen has the best Viognier in Napa valley. Unfortunately the Viognier was sold out when we visited the tasting room. When we visited Trefethen, they were offering wine paring with chocolates. This may have been only during the valentine’s weekend. Check their web page before your visit. Also recommend researching their wines before visiting the winery. Then again I didn’t know about Trefethen until we visited the winery.
