We booked reservations for a week. This is an awful park. The sites are incredibly small and not level. Our rig was hanging over the edge of the street, the jacks were fully extended with the front wheels off the ground, the awning extended over the "fence line." With the toad having to be parked on the site there was no space for relaxing on the patio. Security was constantly wheeling around in their golf carts but never saw 90% of the dog owners leaving their steaming piles behind. The young kids at the front desk knew nothing of RVing and couldn't even offer simple directions around NB. There were plenty of rules as well as many old TT's with piles of junk lying around them, obviously long term residents. It is an old overpriced park that needs to update for today's RVer. This was not a great experience and I will never go back. There are plenty of other RV parks around Southern California that are of higher quality.

Just back from a lovely weekend at the Newport Dunes RV Resort. I was impressed by the cleanliness of the park and attention to detail of the staff. Everyone was friendly and the place was obviously well run. We had a tiny campsite at the back, but it was perfectly adequate (25 x 25) for our van conversion and was a very short walk from the beach. Full hookups for RV's. Enjoyed the walking path that circles the bay and the cafe (breakfast and lunch this time of year) was terrific. We're already planning a trip back in the spring.

“Not Great”

Newport Dunes Waterfront RV and Camping Park

If you plan ahead and have a space on the water, this might be a better experience. Otherwise, spaces are small and divided by bent up green fences. Laundry facilities are inconvenient. For as much money as they get for these spaces, I sure expected something more then just a patch of dirt to park on.

We were invited to camp here on the same site as a friend with a trailer. We had no problem getting in and setting up. The bathroom was close by and suprisingly clean as far as public restrooms/showers go. Yes, the sites are small, but this is Southern California, real estate is prime. We camped with our three kids and then some. There was no lack of anything to do and I would suggest bringing along the bikes because the trails are beautiful.

On the weekends, there are movies on the beach and I would suggest getting their early for prime seating or better yet, sit next to the bonfire and make some smores. The club house pool was nice and yes, there are kids there. Hello...vacation! Although I do have to agree, I wish they would stick to the adults only being on the jacuzzi.

Balboa Island (or is it Pennisula) is one major street away, with all the old shops and eateries. From there it is about a 7 minute walk to the ferry that will take you over to Balboa Penninsula (or is it island). Ferry was $3 for two adults and two kids.

Our friends with the trailer had no complaints on the space, the size, the location, etc. We were kind of worried about whether or not the nights would be quiet enough to sleep as there are many people/kids/teenagers riding bikes, skateboards, etc during the day. Come ten o'clock, everything was quiet.

Basically, don't expect the Ritz because it is, after all, an RV and tent camping park. But if you just want to have some fun near the beach, this is the place to go.

I cannot imagine anyone staying at this dump! Perhaps if one has only experienced mediocre RV campsites then Newport Dunes is just your hangout. I for one enjoy a good, clean RV campsite as well as friendly staff ALL YEAR long rather than during the less trafficked season. Avoid Newport Dunes at all costs!!
