We rented two double kayaks at the Newport Beach Aquatic Center ---. The double sit ontop kaysks cost $18 each per hour. We tooled around the bay for two and a half hours. There are lots of crabs and open space in the nature reserve. This contrasts with the beautiful dockside homes and boats as we paddled toward Balboa Island and up to the ferris wheel. The water is very calm in the bay. We left our shoes on the beach at the aquatic center and wore street clothes on the kayaks. The kids (11 and 14) enjoyed the adventure from balancing on launch to hosing off the sand.
