Having never been to Newport Beach, we didn't know what was available and found this place online. There are not a whole lot of hotels within walking distance and there were only two in our price range. This one and a Best Western down the street. After calling both places, I was very impressed with Christine, one of the caretakers who gave me the imformation about the motel. She was very friendly and informative. We booked our stay for July 1st and July 2nd and it was very affordable.
Once we got there we were greeted by a really cool guy working the desk who immediately got us checked in, marked off a map for us with the local attractions, and gave us some inside info on places to eat and shops.
Now, if you are expecting the Hilton, stop reading here. This place is a small motor inn. The room was just fine and came with a fridge, microwave, coffee pot, clean towels, and a really nice LG flat screen TV. Nothing fancy, just a nice place to lay your head in the evening after a day at the beach.
Speaking of the beach, we were a 2 minute walk to the beach. This was perfect. Similar places back on the east coast like Daytona or Virginia Beach would have been double or triple what we paid here. Also, the hotel has a small quickie mart next store with a really cool old Asian dude working there, and there is a nice breakfast place next store.
We also needed boogie boards for the kids and were refered by the guy at the front desk to Frogs Surf shop, just a couple of blocks away on the same side of the street heading north on PCH. This place was old school and of all the places we looked for boards, they were the best priced if you want a real board and not the junk they sell at the other stores in town.
Also close to you on Balboa Road is an Albertsons for groceries, Balboa Pier, Newport Pier, The Wedge, lots of places to eat, and Huntington Beach.
We really enjoyed our stay there as you can tell and it was only 109/night. Of course, we were there on a weekday, but none the less, considering the location, how close to the beach it is, and all the things within walking and driving distance, it was the perfect place for our family and our budget.
Incidentally, just to show the level of service we experienced, one of our kids left their gameboy charger in the room and we didn't realize until we were well on our way home. We called the hotel and asked about it. 15 minutes later they called back, said they had it, and we worked out arrangements to have them ship it back to us. We received it in 3 days. See if one of the chain hotels will do that for you.
Loved the Newport Channel Inn.
