We stayed one night here with our two young boys. I thought they would enjoy seeing the boats and being close to the water. We were given a double room that overlooked the courtyard pool. That was a bummer. Plus we were gently encouraged to take our kids off property for dinner as the restaurant is not very child friendly.

The room was standard hotel fare. The beds were very comfortable with a feather topper. The carpet was stained and everything looked a little run down. The bedding had black ink stains. Most troubling was that both bathroom sinks had a layer of black grime around the drain and up the bowl. Like they had recently backed up. I checked the tub and it was clean. I was able to clean the grime off with a tissue but it was gross. I also found a medicine tablet on the floor near the toilet. I was thankful I found it before my kids did.

I always read through the hotel's guest handbook to understand the property. I was shocked to find that all the restaurants have a dress code and it says right there in print that unruly children are not tolerated. Sheesh! Plus there was a mention that outside food in the rooms was forbidden and bringing in your own food could result in penalty charges.

In the morning the pool was set for lap swimming and given the overall atmosphere I did not think my well behaved kids would be welcome in the water. I was glad we only stayed the one night.

I loved my stay here, the beds are one of the best I sleeped in, like Cloud # 9. The view over the Bay with all the beautiful Jachts is breath taking. I used the Spa, Restaurant and had a meeting here. Everything was 1st.Class.
But now they told me I can bring my dog with me, even better.
I will be back.

Expensive, but well worth it. Luxurious bedding, perfect location for Southern Cal, polite staff who goes above and beyond. What more can you ask for? Be sure and ask for a room with a view.

“Wonderful time”

The Balboa Bay Club & Resort

12 Jul 2007

The room was beautiful, although the carpet was damp. The bedding is luxurious! The bathroom very nice, although the marble around the tub was so wide it was hard to step over to get into the tub. We didn't eat at the hotel. We did visit the Grog Shop and the young lady working there was very accommodating. It was almost closing time, but she never rushed us. The valet team was exceptional. Very nice, casual because we were with them. Treated our less than luxury rental car the same as the Lamborgini parked next to it! The Concierge, Patrick wasn't as helpful as he could have been. Seemed to be a little put out by a simple request to help with flight arrangements, but did do it. Overall a beautiful relaxing time and a great place to stay!

“Balboa Beach Club and Resort - Way below expectations”

The Balboa Bay Club & Resort

Beautiful hotel - customer service - leaves much to be desired. Fire alarm at approx. 3am on Sunday morning turned out to be false alarm - after announcement that it was false - alarm continued to go off every 2 minutes for 3 hours. No apology from hotel staff or explanation when questioned. Room Service on Saturday nite - called twice - no answer. Buffet on Sunday nite, great food. Manager of "Dukes" - no other way to describe him but a "bully". Attempted to resolve issues with General Manager through phone call and e-mail - no reponse. E-mailed president of the Resort - no response- even though he has a letter of committment in the guest rooms stating he wants to assure all guests expectations are met and wants to be contacted. Night front desk manager did listen to our concerns and was first management person to exhibit acceptable customer service. Valets worked extremely hard and helpful in directing us to our destinations, forget the conceirge, unwilling to help unless you are a member of the "club".
