I chose this hotel because of its close proximity to where my son lived, who I was visiting. While the hotel itself was typical of what I expected in a beach resort for an "economical" stay, the staff was surprisingly cheerful and helpful. We arrived at 10 a.m. - check in time was 3 p.m. They hurriedly got our room ready for an early check in.

Nothing special about the room ... it was very clean and roomy - king size bed. We were on the back side so it was pretty quiet. It was walking distance - 2 blocks to a bike rental shop. We took the bikes down the bike/walk path all the way to the end. The hotel is very close to the beach ... across the highway ... though don't expect any views ... the nice homes on the beach were blocking any views.

They have a continental breakfast -- however, I am not sure of the times because one morning it was closed at 9 a.m. and the next it was open until at least 10 a.m. Boiled eggs, various breads for toast, a waffle maker and batter, fruits, cereal, Starbucks coffee, tea, juice.

Would stay there again if looking for an economical place and the conveniences it has to offer. There isn't much else to choose from close to the beach other than condos and homes.

Travelled from Ireland to California. Stayed at this hotel over Christmas 2005 and New Year 2006. Had a wonderful time and were made so welcome by all the staff. The location was perfect for us and central to everything. There were almost thirty of us altogether and we were all well catered for. Big thanks to Angelica and all the staff. This hotel is a mixed blessing. The room and amenities were quite nice. No negatives whatsoever. What one must consider though is the fact that it is located on a very busy road (Pacific Coast Highway) and that it is always noisy out front. The front rooms have balconies and a partial ocean view; it is hard to give this up and request a back room to avoid the noise. With the door closed and the A/C on, the noise is muted...but still...

The 2nd negative is that there is virtually nothing around the hotel, in terms of restaurants, or amenities; you must drive to do anything or get anywhere, with one exception: the beach. The beach is a short walk (one block) and the hotel provides towels and chairs.

All in all, pretty good value, but a bit out in left field for my taste.

This place was AMAZING! We came to newport to be where the O.C. is filmed, and it was EXACTLY what we wanted. when we walked into our room, we were greeted with chocolates on our pillows, and a little welcome card. everything we needed/ or wanted was readily available to us, without a hassel. The staff was all very friendly, gave good directions and was always available when we needed them, 1 in particular, Justin was amazing. They have free Dvd's to use, and Dvd players in each room. Fresh Baked Cookies and free use of beach toys and towels. it was very clean, and spacious, and we had a nice view( from 1 side, atleast) A quick walk to the beach, or the pier, and amazing resturants all around. Try the crab cooker, if you can. Just overall, an amazing place/ stay. We also recieved a very nice postcard when we got home, requesting for us to stay again. i would highly recommend this place, to stay at.
