I have stayed in a thousand hotels and motels in the last 15 years and this one rates among the worst. Not in a cleanliness way - it was actually fine - but in a service and noise way. The guy at the front desk was more concerned with his internet access and cell phone than answering a simple question but that isnt the deal breaker. The deal breaker:

The walls were as thin as paper so the TV's in the two rooms to either side of me were almost as loud as mine. They were on well into the night and at 5 am the guy next to me starts yapping on the phone. I could hear everything he said. It was as if he was in my room. I am not exaggerating! Luckily for me I had to get up at 5:30 otherwise I would have been very crabby. It was the loudest hotel experience I have ever had (well that isnt quite true NYC has a few).

The place is nowhere near the town so you have to drive to eat or shop. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else.

This is too wonderful to ignore . . . The folks at Best Western Newport Beach not only refused to allow me to cancel and receive a refund - despite my calls to their hotel and Best Western Customer Service (an oxymoron), but charged me an additional $7.90 for being a "No Show"! In my past years as a travel agent I thought I'd heard it all, but this beats everything!

While the hotel was close to the beach it had a few problems. The front desk staff was helpful and friendly but was uneducated about what accomdations the rooms provided. The cleaning staff was rude, and inconsistant.The contiential breakfast was first come first serve and 8:00 was not early enough to get bagels. There were only two choices of jelly (grape & apple) and no peanutbutter or creamcheese. The staff also made me wait untill they were finished preparing their own personal breakfasts before I could make my own. The starbucks that is promised is a hotpot in the front desk in only one flavor. Also the beds were very uncomfortable & the walls are paper thin so it is very loud. I would only reccomend staying in this hotel if you are very low matience and do not enjoy a good nights sleep, bagels, decaf coffee or strawberry jelly.

I chose this hotel because of its close proximity to where my son lived, who I was visiting. While the hotel itself was typical of what I expected in a beach resort for an "economical" stay, the staff was surprisingly cheerful and helpful. We arrived at 10 a.m. - check in time was 3 p.m. They hurriedly got our room ready for an early check in.

Nothing special about the room ... it was very clean and roomy - king size bed. We were on the back side so it was pretty quiet. It was walking distance - 2 blocks to a bike rental shop. We took the bikes down the bike/walk path all the way to the end. The hotel is very close to the beach ... across the highway ... though don't expect any views ... the nice homes on the beach were blocking any views.

They have a continental breakfast -- however, I am not sure of the times because one morning it was closed at 9 a.m. and the next it was open until at least 10 a.m. Boiled eggs, various breads for toast, a waffle maker and batter, fruits, cereal, Starbucks coffee, tea, juice.

Would stay there again if looking for an economical place and the conveniences it has to offer. There isn't much else to choose from close to the beach other than condos and homes.
