You'll let go of schedules and all the little things that tug at the mind as the stunning beauty of nature surrounds and invites you. This year I stayed in the Lawrence Room in late March/early April and rich bird symphonies woke me in the mornings. It's a stand-alone room with its own fully equipped kitchen. Since I had an extended stay, this worked out perfectly for preparing meals.
Spring time is a magical time to be at the retreat. The scent of orange blossom perfumes the valley and the grounds are filled with pink and white azaleas, geraniums and red camellias. Bushes of pink jasmine in the yard emit a heavenly soft scent.
A lovely sunrise washes into the east side kitchen window. That window looks out on to a patio where you can eat or just sit on the chairs at a coffee table. The patio is surrounded by trees and bushes on one side and a garage wall on the other. Stone steps behind the patio lead to the yard. The kitchen table is at the west window that looks over to the main house roof—not much of a view, but it receives the lovely orange light of sunset.
The east window of the main room looks out to a garage wall, again not much of a view, but it is a rejuvenating peace filled room. A skylight in the main room streams in nature’s moods. One afternoon, I just watched the rainfall. Although this room tends to be dark, the skylight brightens it on sunny days.
The Lawrence Room is a tranquil room. Although I prefer more light, all I had to do was step out and walk through the lovely orange groves not too far from the room and listen to the roving humming birds and bees or take to the stunning trails nearby.
