I stayed at the Sea Breeze Lodge for several days recently and was mostly pleased. The motel is situated either side of Lighthouse Ave. There seem to be quite a few rooms. My room was a simple King. The room was nicely decorated. There was the large bed, no work desk, no wireless, the bath was separate from the sink. Quite basic but sufficient. Even with nighttime temperatures in the 50s, the blankets on the bed let me sleep with the windows open. There was a phone in the room that stated that were to be no incoming calls after 10pm. This is probably due to the thinness of the walls.
I'll attribute the following to the fact that I had gotten my room off of hotels.com; it seems to happen at many places. The room did have a problem with ants. They were tiny, but I had dispatched and lined up a dozen while I was shaving. Each morning I was there. The windows were less than secure, and I wasn't so sure about the door. Fortunately, Pacific Grove has to be one of the most secure suburbs around. But still. With no in-room safe, I took my laptop with me every day.
On the whole, I think the Sea Breeze was a pretty good deal. I would have rather paid about $30 less a night (which is the price that the desk clerk quoted a man w/o a reservation when I was checking in), but then I didn't see the rooms in the original section behind the office. Ask to see your room first if you have any concerns.
The ocean is quite close, as is "downtown" Pacific Grove. It's a beautiful part of America. All things considered, I'd probably stay there again. If they provided an in-room safe or free wireless, I wouldn't hesitate.
