“A Great Town and Value”

Sea Breeze Lodge

When we first pulled into the Sea Breeze Lodge it seemed like an unassuming property and I wondered if the rooms would be the same. When we opened our door we were very pleased to see a beautifully decorated room with a nice large patio and a separate bedroom as well. The mattress was so comfortable I asked the front desk what brand it was. For those of you that don't frequent the area, Pacific Grove is on the very point of the Monterey Peninsula and is flanked on the south by Pebble Beach and Monterey to the north. It is a gem of a town with quaintness to spare. The downtown is small but dotted with stately Victorian homes and small shops and restaurants. It is also home to a very pretty shoreline that the city has seen to put a recreational trail on. All in all it is a spot that everyone within a few hours drive should take advantage of.

“A very fine spot”

We are from England and had the most wonderful stay in Pacific Grove. The natural beauty of the Monterey Peninsula is a far cry from city living in London. The Sea Breeze Lodge was very reasonably priced and had very pleasant rooms and service.

I will say that one must take highway 1 to Big Sur if you really want the California experience. There is a restaurant called Nepenthe in Big Sur that hovers above the Pacific Ocean and is a very casual spot to enjoy the sun and views.

I stayed at the Sea Breeze Lodge for several days recently and was mostly pleased. The motel is situated either side of Lighthouse Ave. There seem to be quite a few rooms. My room was a simple King. The room was nicely decorated. There was the large bed, no work desk, no wireless, the bath was separate from the sink. Quite basic but sufficient. Even with nighttime temperatures in the 50s, the blankets on the bed let me sleep with the windows open. There was a phone in the room that stated that were to be no incoming calls after 10pm. This is probably due to the thinness of the walls.

I'll attribute the following to the fact that I had gotten my room off of hotels.com; it seems to happen at many places. The room did have a problem with ants. They were tiny, but I had dispatched and lined up a dozen while I was shaving. Each morning I was there. The windows were less than secure, and I wasn't so sure about the door. Fortunately, Pacific Grove has to be one of the most secure suburbs around. But still. With no in-room safe, I took my laptop with me every day.

On the whole, I think the Sea Breeze was a pretty good deal. I would have rather paid about $30 less a night (which is the price that the desk clerk quoted a man w/o a reservation when I was checking in), but then I didn't see the rooms in the original section behind the office. Ask to see your room first if you have any concerns.

The ocean is quite close, as is "downtown" Pacific Grove. It's a beautiful part of America. All things considered, I'd probably stay there again. If they provided an in-room safe or free wireless, I wouldn't hesitate.

Our unit was across the street in a room so small the queen bed dwarfed it. Not enough room for a dresser so we stacked some clothes on the tiny closet shelf. The TV cable reception was great & the wall decorations were good but the blinds were dog-chewed and the very small restroom was what disappointed us the most - the shower head water pressure wasn't much more than a trickle once adjusted to the right temp. The glass sliding doors were so cheaply made that I was concerned that they would stay on the runners. The grout/putty was black with mildew & the sink could be pulled away from the wall. Although close to the road, we didn't hear much traffic sound & I think we got lucky by having pretty quiet neighbors.
I got the feeling that the managers had been at this job too long as they provide a bare minimum of information & cordiality and didn't say thank you after I paid at 'check out'.
Our average nights rent was $120 but it wasn't worth the savings even though it's in a great neighborhood & close to so much.
We were (still are) looking for a nice place for our annual long weekends to PG but this will definitely not make the list.

VERY noisy: Road noise, other guests, etc No dresser in room to unpack into; maid service sketchy; Continental Breakfast is, by definition, a selection of breads and fruits, not the chaotic, crowded, unorganized melange of bagels and coffee. No screens on any windows, so very stuffy in room; mgmt. unwilling to change rooms, send requested maid service, or anything at all to help improve conditions. Do not expect to feel welcome or get any rest here!!
