I have mixed feelings about this place; the location is fabulous. It's where the forest meets the beach. No kidding. I was walking to the beach and ran into a red fox, and on the way back ran into 3 raccoons and in the morning saw deer. it was fantastic, but the room, was ok. It was adequate. We stayed in a suite. Large bedroom with 2 beds, large living area, and a small kitchenette.
Bathroom was outdated and the price was very fair for the location. Staff is friendly. the place is clean. Honestly I wasn't in the room much, I was out taking pictures of the sunset over the ocean and chasing down a red fox. If your trip is about the experience of where you are and not about the hotel. You have to stay here. Sure I would stay again. But keep in mind, it's not a luxury place, it's adequate.

I really enjoyed my stay at Rosedale! Compared to the other Inns in that area, Rosedale has the most affordable rates, especially for the accomodation they offer. The room I had was incredibly clean and the staff is probably the most friendly and warm people I've encountered in a long time at a hotel. The room(s) (I've stayed here before) do have some minor glitches here and there, but most places do if you look hard enough. I really like the setup of their two room suites, and overall my stays there have always been great and I've always been treated well and professionally by their staff. If you're going to stay in Pacific Grove, go to Rosedale 1st!!!

We just returned from our trip to California and while in Monterey Bay we stayed at the Rosedale Inn. I would have preferred something on the beach but there are very few and my husband doesn't care for B&Bs. I had read your reviews of the hotels in the area and decided to try Rosedale Inn. We were not disappointed, in fact we were sorry to leave when it was time to move on.
The room was immaculate - we had a king bed with a fireplace and there was a little kitchenette with a microwave and fridge. They also had a very nice continental breakfast every morning. It was in Pacific Grove and only about a block from the beach, so every night we would have our walk on the beach and listen to the ocean(which I just love being a midwesterner)!
The only thing I would advise is if you have any questions about directions or need advice on things in the area - be sure to ask the day manager. We had a couple questions and didn't think to ask until evening and the evening manager isn't as familiar with the area having only lived there a short time.
All said we were very impressed and would go there again - It was clean, quiet and very nicely decorated.

My wife and I went back after staying there 2 years before. We were disappointed.
We arrived late, and there was a mix up where our room key was not there, so we had to wait around an hour or more for a staff member to come to let us in.
The room smelled musty, and we could not clear it up by airing it out. And this room was described as one of the updated rooms.
On the good side, the breakfast was nice, the place was quiet, and the location is ideal.

This was our 2nd stay at the Rosedale. We stayed in a standard king room which was more than enough space for a couple. If you have a family the 2 room suites are better. The first time we stayed in a room facing the parking lot which I don't recommend. They're noisier and you get headlights shining into your room at night. This time we stayed in a back facing room which was much quieter. We had windows above the bed which needed to have better curtains to block out the light. The cleanliness was good overall and everything worked (although the fan in the bathroom was very noisy). The fireplace was nice to have but yes, the flame is only about 2 inches high. The jacuzzi in the bathroom was great and I actually liked having the TV in there so I could listen to the news while getting ready. The breakfast was decent: coffee, juice, cereal, croissants, danish, bagels, fruit. I would suggest some improvements, though: upgrade the bed coverings, fix the fireplace if possible, provide a few extra bath towels (you get only 2), change the curtains above the bed, and consider installing some nice granite for the bathroom countertops. Overall I was very satisfied with my stay and would stay again if I can get a good rate. Rita at the front desk was nice and very helpful with rearranging my reservation so I would not have to switch rooms.
