My husband and I decided to take a trip to Monterey to see the Aquarium as it had been many years since we had been there. The Inn at 213 was a new experience as we had never stayed at a B&B. Our two-night stay at this charming inn was wonderful! Diana and Charlie, the innkeepers, made us feel instantly at home, our room was clean and sunny, and the bed was comfortable with lots of pillows. Happy hour with wine and hors d'ourves enabled us to meet other travelers from all over the world. A hot breakfast was offered by Charlie each morning. The only negative I can think of is that the towels could have been of better quality. We also enjoyed meeting Milo, the resident inkeeper dog, very much. Hugs were exchanged all around when we left, leaving us with a warm feeling about our stay.

Inn at 213 Seventeen Mile Drive

I spent four days at the end of February/beginning of March at the Inn. It looked good online. It looks even better in person. Dianna and Charlie are delightful hosts whose advice was always on target. Several really good restaurants (The Red House, Passionfish) are within walking distance. But when I wanted something simple and not so fancy one evening, then sent me to Vivolo's Chowder House on Central street, which is a short drive. Gracious!

Other "good eats" tips on the Peninsula: Katy's for breakfast in Carmel-by-the-Sea. Go early, grab a paper, sit at the counter and make friends. Lou-lou's is a counter-only diner in the middle of Fisherman's Wharf (the commercial pier, not the tourist mecca) in Monterey. They know what they're doing with fish'n'chips.

Lest you think all I did was eat (btw, although I was out the door early most days, the one breakfast where I dined at the Inn was quite nice), there was work and a bit of exploring, too. Check out Book Haven, an unusually good used book store on Tyler street in Monterey. There's a toll section of 17 Mile Drive ($9.50) that follows the coast from Pacific Grove to Carmel. It's a reusable ticket, good all day. It's hard to argue with the beauty of the coast (although the wind can bite, so bring a sweatshirt and a hat or ear-muffs). Still, the whole Pebble Beach/golf courses everywhere/rich and richer enclave business is a bit of a turn off).

I didn't have time to whale watching...so next time!

btw, I stayed in The Sanderling room. Very cozy. Incredibly comfortable bed. And, oh, yes, the chocolates. Dianna has a weakness for them and pretty much thinks everyone else should, too!

Dianna & Charlie are amazing! I stayed here alone for a conference, and I couldn't have had a better time! They took care of me as if I was their own family member. The Inn was beautiful and Charlie's breakfasts are delicious! I would recommend the Inn to everyone! I enjoyed my stay so much, I plan to return as soon as I can. Thanks Dianna & Charlie! Hope to see you again soon!

This was our second time staying at the Inn. This is one of our favorite things to do as a couple. We personally recommend the Turnstone room. The people are always friendly and the food is great!

I stayed at the Inn at Seventeen Mile Drive on November 5 & 6 this year. Dianna and Charlie Wareing were the perfect hosts! My room (Sandpiper) was comfortable and well appointed, the evening wine and appitizers were wonderful and different each night, and breakfast was well above average for a B&B. Snacks were always available, including yummy cookies when you returned from dinner.

The other guests were friendly, and Charlie facilitated an active and stimulating discussion over wine both evenings. His background in the food business was a plus in getting recommendations for dinner. I ate at Melange in Pacific Grove one night, which was one of the best meals I have every had! Dianna made sure everyone was well-fed and their needs met over breakfast. I will definitely visit this inn again when I am in the Monterey/Pacific Grove area.
