My wife and I stayed there at the end of May. Our trip consisted of a few days in Monterey/Pacific Grove and a few days in San Francisco. Our Monterey/Pacific Grove portion of the trip was definitely the highlight.
The Inn was a delight. It was clean, had nice architectural features in the Craftsman style, lovely and comfortable rooms, a great location within minutes of the beaches, restaurants, shopping, etc. Charlie and Diana are wonderful innkeepers. They both made our first anniversary trip special. They will go out of their way to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable.
Diana went to get our favorite chocolates and champagne and had them in our room for our anniversary. Charlie was a lot of fun to talk to and did a great job making hot breakfasts for us every morning and a cozy fire in the den at night. This might sound a bit strange, but the toast was the best I've had in a long time. I wish we could find that bread in Houston!
The room looked recently remodeled. It was beautiful, spacious and even had views of the ocean, though honestly the water was pretty far off. You can't hear the surf from the Inn. No hotels are built closer to the water than this B&B, though, trust us. Even the bathroom had ocean views! And it was probably the cleanest bathroom I have come across in a long time. And that's a big deal!
I took a look at some of the other rooms (we stayed in the Turnstone) and would like to stay in the Blue Heron sometime. It was larger, with a nice balcony/sunroom. I am posting pictures of the property for everyone to look at.
My only complaints were that the street noise was a bit noticeable at night, especially when you sleep with the windows open. Lots of cars would drive by since it's a fairly major street in Pacific Grove. But it wasn't enough to keep us up.
The other complaint is that the owners haven't put much money into the landscaping. The innkeepers are aware of this and are trying to get the grounds spruced up. It would be great if they really gave the front area some curb appeal. But would that ruin anybody's stay? I can't imagine it would.
If you are searching for a great place to stay in the Monterey area, I would heartily recommend The Inn at 213 Seventeen-Mile Drive. I don't think you'll be disappointed!
