My girlfriend and I chose to stay at the Sunset Inn (coming all the way from Boston) after a couple of friends from San Francisco recommended this cute spot. My girlfriend LOVED how romantic the rooms were (fireplaces, comfortable beds, etc). Waking up in the morning to a room with soft sunlight and the sound of the wind in the trees was really refreshing compared to busy city life. The location is great since it's quiet, yet it's very close to all the beautiful Monterey Bay locales. I really appreciated how friendly and helpful the staff was - as a young couple, my girlfriend and I wanted to feel the small town charm (so the staff drew us a map of a beautiful walk along the more private Carmel River beach), yet still go out in a happening area (so the manager recommended we go out to the martini bar, Lallapalooza, on Alvarado St in downtown). Also, the restaurant the manager suggested and made us a reservation at was OUTSTANDING.
Sunset Inn was the highlight of our vacation and just like my own friends did, I recommend it to everybody! My buddies and I have even booked a few rooms here for our upcoming annual golf trip!

Can you imagine a hotel that doesn't have an e-mail address in the year 2007? This was the case of the Sunset Inn in Pacific Grove. Beside the fact that the furniture was disgusting and the breakfast tasted like plastic (they can't call that a breakfast), they never sent us the fax with the confirmation and charged more than we agreed.
And because we didn't have the fax, we had no way to prove it.
I made my reservation by phone and they said it was $ 150/night for a room for 3 people. They charged $159.95 and we had to pay because they never sent us a confirmation fax with the agreed value!

The room we received (116) did not look anything like the remodeled room in the website. The walls were dirty & in dire need of a fresh coat of paint. The bathroom sink would not drain as the sink stopper would not raise up. When I opened up the sink door, there were droppings in the bottom that showed this place was in need of a good exterminator.
We told the woman at the front desk about our sink's condition as well as our unwanted guest.
I don't think it was just our room as the next morning when we were in the office, another guest came in to complain that his sink was not draining.
And don't try to communicate with the cleaning ladies, they don't speak English.
Nice location but plenty of other places in the area that have to be cleaner. Try them.

After reading all the reviews I was very skeptical about this place, but I had very few choices since me and my husband planned this trip during memorial week end at the last minute. So this was the only decent place that was left.

The room looks exactly the same as in teh website, the room was clean, nice sheets, very small stand up shower that you will hit the wall when you try to showere, but it didnt bother us much.

The manager was very kind enough, they have a phone to call if we come after hours, we checked in at 2 am since we drove from oakland. She was kind and courteous. The breakfast is nothing fancy but you get muffins , bread toast and coffee. We were happy with it. There is a great coffee place just in a block where you get fresh chocolates too, also there is regular grocery store. Big sur is 1 hr from here and the beach is beautiful if you walk down teh street 5 min. When you drive past the inn , there is a nice scenic drive with cottages and park bences. Altogether the trip was beautiful.

We paid approx 500 for 3 nights.
