My experience at Marriott's Desert Springs Villas was a fantastic one. The resort itself was conveniently located to shopping areas and outside restaurants. Also, the resort had enough amenities than one did not need to travel anywhere. The shops and restaurants on site were first class! Our unit was just adjacent to the golf course and in a very quiet and serene area which backed to a small lake with ducks. Pools and spa were right next door. It was a week of total relaxation and rest, enjoying the beauty of the California scenery. The unit was a lock-off and slept 3 comfortably. Mini frig, microwave, and sink made eating a light breakfast in the room convenient. The beds were very comfortable and the extra large bathroom was very roomy even for three women! The room was very clean and maid service came daily to address any needs. Even though it was a very large resort it was very quiet and comfortable. I would definatly return to this resort and highly recommend it to anyone else.

We are in our thrities and stayed at this hotel for a girls weekend. We booked a 2 bedroom villa after seeing pictures on Expedia. Well, one half of the room looked like the pictures on the web site, and the bathrooms looked like they belonged in a hospital. They were apparently not remodeled when the rest of the room was, and the pink tile and white handicapped bars were an eye sore. It should also be noted that the second bedroom was separated from the rest of the villa by an awkward tiled entrance (imagine a one bedroom villa with another hotel room next door). Our trip was nice and without any other issues, but I would choose to stay at another resort for the price. Our group did enjoy using the JW spa without fees though!

These are newly rennovated rooms so they have Marriott bed, granite countertops, separate tub (very large) and shower. Marble bathrooms walls and floors. Great airconditioning even in summer. A balcony overlooking golf course. Bonus of pool choices. Close to where I stayed, there was a small pool but big enough for laps. There was BBQ area too. Towels abound. There was also a quiet pool in another area. There was a cluster of party pools with giant screen, volley ball area, giant chess board and other games, kids wading pool and play area, etc. There were a total of 6 pool areas (separate from each other), just choose your mood. Bonus is ability to go to the adjacent JW Marriott pools as well. There were so many pool options that it was like having a private pool. Golf and tennis onsite (so many courts, you are bound to be able to play in one.) One of the best spa at the JW. If you stay during the Indian Wells Champions Tournament, there are shuttles that bring you to the grounds.
The service is average. (JW Marriott service is better.)

My husband and I stayed in a studio room with the two double beds. We had family who owns a timeshare here and they were in a two-bedroom unit. So I booked a studio for $127 AAA rate. Great price. The room was OK, but I was disappointed in a few things:
1. The "kitchenette" is just a counter with a small fridge underneath and a microwave, toaster and coffee maker on top. There is no sink, so it's hardly what I would call a kitchenette.
2. Although the rooms have been redecorated, they still smack of the 70s with the textured walls and ceilings and old, ugly tile in the bathroom/shower. Plus, the tile grout was black and yucky.
3. The shower head was terrible.
4. The only bed configurations are two doubles. No queens or kings.

We could have stayed at Villas II and had a King bed, but I thought it would be a bonus to have access to the JW Marriott resort. In actuality, I would have been fine not going over there. I really don't care for that main pool. It's huge, crowded, noisy and has a frat party or college spring break vibe. Of course, a lot of people like that sort of thing. But if you prefer a little bit of class and relaxation, I don't think you'll enjoy the main pool.

All in all, it was a decent hotel room for the price. But really nothing to be impressed with in my opinion. And again...I'm just referring to the studios. If you have the full two bedroom unit or even the one bedroom suite, that's a whole different story.

We purchased a getaway from Interval International and decided to try the Desert Spring Villas I as it provides access to JW Marriott Resort and Spa. The place is awesome! It's older compared to the Villas II (obviously) but for 7 days and a full kitchen with jetted tub, king size bed with a gorgeous view of the greens and spacious accommodations, we just can't complain! If you have a golf enthusiast with you (as my hubby), this place is paradise! What more, you are 30 minutes away to 130 premium outlet stores (Cabazon) and our vacation stay allowed us to have a complimentary coupon booklet - nice perk - just because I never expected it! :D The area is close to El Paseo Gardens (so those of you who love your name-brands, this is awesome!!!) and if you are looking for organic food/grocery - go to Trader Joe's - that's where we bought our food for the majority of our stay.
The staff at Marriott were also very helpful. Internet is free (you need to read the Vacation Guide that is in your villa if you need help getting the internet started) so you can stay connected in the world and if the pools in the villas are not enough for your whims, you are allowed to use the humungous pool at the JW Marriott property.
All in all - it was a fun and sunny adventure for us. This property, despite it's age, is a great place to be!
