This is a small and friendly family-run inn which we chose on the basis of other trip advisor reviews; we would have to agree that it was a pleasure to stay here. We arrived in the first week of September and therefore slightly off peak, so there was plenty of room availability. The inn does not offer any meals, however, each of the rooms has a kitchen area and a fridge, there is a little free snack basket containing things such as pretzels and there is a large communal kitchen which has free beverages, fruit and sweets available all day which was nice. The staff are also happy to do the washing up after you.
We would recommend taking a trip by car down the road to "Ralphs", the local supermarket to stock up on provisions if, like us, you don't fancy eating out for every meal. There is also a BBQ area by the kitchen which if nice - although we didn't use it. If you come from the UK then "Ralphs" is a little like a fusion between Marks and Spencers and Waitrose, and you get a small discount as a hotel guest.
Whilst the rooms themselves are not luxurious (we chose a standard King), they had everything we needed to end our California road trip and the place itself is very romantic. The pool and hot tub is open 24/7 and we went in at midnight once or twice with a bottle of wine to watch the stars!
One thing that we felt distinguished this place from many of the other places and why we gave it a 5 star was a number of small things which one would not normally expect in a place for this price range. Firstly, the hotel was extremely flexible with regards to checking out for no extra cost (we had an evening flight from LA so left at 3pm). As there was no one staying in our room that evening, the owner's daughter Lucy allowed us to stay there until the mid afternoon and we used the pool. When we left the hotel we drove straight to LAX airport which was only an hour and 45 minutes away (we didn't experience any traffic jams).
One other thing that we liked was the library of DVDs in the communal living room which we could borrow to take back to our rooms for no cost. The pool area had complimentary sun lotion and there was complimentary wine on our arrival. Essentially, combined with the surrounds - hummingbirds flying about our heads as we relaxed by the pool, this was a thoroughly relaxing experience. The 40 degree heat was a little high for us so we did not take advantage of the free hotel bikes, but that was an option. The hotel sitting room also has copies of many of the local restaurant menus so you can have a perusal in advance to avoid taking a trip to too many places.
We would recommend going downtown on Thursday nights for anyone planning a stay in Palm Springs - this is a market day and shops open late with stalls on the street. There is free parking in the large car park just behind the main street which we used. One thing to note is that you will have to drive to get to downtown - walking is a little far and quite hot. The local restaurants are quite good - we recommend going to Elmas for breakfast/ brunch. We also had dinner at Johnny Costas which was also pleasant.
Overall, this was a lovely stay and we would recommend anyone coming to Palm Springs and looking for a small, romantic place (with no little children splashing about!) to stay here. We would certainly come again.
