Upon arrival we were able to secure a pool/mountain view room only if we waited for it to become available which did become after the 4pm check-in. Do not plan to check-in early, other people mentioned the same thing. Just get your swimwear and head to to pool to wait or walk the short 2 blocks to the main strip of Palm Springs. When we did finally get our room we found that the sofabed was falling apart and since we planned for our kids 4 & 6yrs to sleep on it they offered to bring in 2 rollaway beds at no cost. A bit cluttered, but it worked out fine (although they could not remove the sofabed till our 3rd day and replace with a sofa we could actually sit on.) The service through all this was extremely prompt and professional. Not a great start, but the rooms were very large, huge bathroom with a large sunken tub, actually 2 baths attached w/a pocket door. 1 had double sinks, walk-in closet, bathtub and toilet, other had shower, sink, toilet. Kitchen was dated but very adequate. Nice to have this space for a family. The balcony/patio was huge and well furnished. The best was the pool area which was well kept and clean, pool heat was very nice - I'd guess 85-87 degrees, nice kiddie pool just steps from the big pool same temp and whirlpool. A workout room just down the stairs from the pool area was nice, also there were 2 tennis courts which we did not use as well as ping pong table and pool table on-site (indoors). The walk to downtown was very short with many restaurants/shops. I would definately recommend this property especially for families. Many people staying there were timeshares and thus many of the nicer views/locations were owned by the timeshare. Hotel Zoso next door seemed a nicer place/more elegant & less family oriented if you don't care about the kitchen and they do offer poolview or non-pool view rooms at time booking if that is crucial to you vs. Marquis villas on request only, we got lucky, but everyone we talked to on a per night booking had an exterior/parking/street view room.

I am staying at the Marquis Villas as I speak. Contrary to other reviews, the service was fine in my opinion. Yeah, its not a spectacular place, but for $150/night in Palm Springs, I'm not at all dissatisfied. I was in a room facing the parking lot and the very nice front desk person found me a poolside/mountain view room to stay the rest of my stay in. The decor is definitely out dated (beds are not the best), but the location is great and the space is huge (full kitchen, huge balcony (if your not facing the parking lot, ask in advance) and a nice bathroom and living room area.) I sat in the jacuzzi for about an hour tonight w/o any interruptions, though it was a bit dirty. I would recommend this place for the money and for the great view if you are facing the right way. :) It is within 2 blocks of the restaurants and shops downtown, which is nice and convenient when you have some drinks w/ dinner. If you're a stiff stay way, if you're a normal person looking for a good deal, have fun!!

“Decent but management more to be desired”

Marquis Villas Spa Resort

13 Mar 2008

Just returned from 3 night stay at Marquis Villas. First night was bad, check in is at 4pm however our room wasn't ready till 4:15pm. Once getting to the room the temperaturewas 82 degrees. We turned on the air left the room and went to dinner. Came back the temp was 81. Checked the air again and thought maybe we had it not turned on correctly. After a hot sleepless night we informed the front desk and left for breakfast. When we came back the service workers were in the room and told us that the front desk will need to move us, the air is busted. Once we were moved we lost our view of the mountians and pool to a view of a restruants back alley and parking lot, and it was trash day.
There was also a situation with a group at the pool around 9pm. Somehow someone left their CD playing on the speakers and access to the music was locked up. A guest tried to get back in to get her music...which had been stuck skipping for at least 30 min and couldn't get in. Maitnance was called but they didn't have a right key...20 min later security was called and it took them another 10 min to find a correct key.
Check out was very slow due to training a new employee. It sounds like they have all kinds of staffing/management issues at this hotel.
On a more informational note, the room was very large and more than we needed. Included a fireplace, wetbar, full kitchen, 2 toilets, 2 sinks, soakinig tub, shower, walk-in closet and 2 balconys. Room was somewhat dated in apperences but was clean, exception was the shower which was tiled and had some mildew.

“Great Potential - Poor Management”

Santa Barbara, CA

We stayed at the Marquis Villas at Palm Springs between Christmas and New Years of 2007. We go to Palm Springs about once a year and had high hopes for this place as it appeared to have a lot of things going for it. Unfortunately the inept management and problems with the upkeep and maintenance of the facility make it hard to recommend or even consider for a return visit. It is really hard to tell who is responsible for management of the place as it is affiliated with a couple of timeshare operators and yet seems to be operated more like a hotel for the most part. This seems to cause confusion among the staff as to what their mission is and who is really in charge. I watched a clerk fumble with a reservation for 10 minutes for another guest only to discover that she was using the wrong computer system for that particular room.

The property is located a couple of blocks east of the main drag (Palm Canyon) and is centrally located so it is in easy walking distance of restaurants, entertainment and the Spa Casino. The rate that we found online was very good for this time of year and given the location and the online information we were excited about finding a ‘new home’ for our Palm Springs visits. (By the way we usually stay at the Hilton which is just one block away, but they have raised their rates from ridiculous to unacceptable in the past year or so).

We arrived and were assigned a 1 bedroom unit (Room 111) on the first floor near the elevator and looking out at the parking lot of Sherman’s Delicatessen (which by the way is a great place to eat). I asked for a unit on a higher floor, but was told that there were none available (translated that meant ‘if you think I’m going to waste my time punching a few keys on the computer you can forget it’). The unit was quite large with a living room, bedroom, huge bathroom with walk-in closet and a well equipped kitchen. The rooms were dark even during the day, but I think this wouldn’t be the case in other locations in the complex. They do have free wireless although the signal was weak and I could only connect in the bedroom. There is underground parking which had easy access and always seemed to have a lot of space. There are tennis courts and 2 pools, but due to the fact that Palm Springs was having a cold spell during that time we did not use the outdoor facilities.

The first ‘maintenance’ problem that we encountered was that door between the bathroom and bedroom was locked and we couldn’t unlock it from either side (there is another door with access to the bathroom from the kitchen). We called for maintenance and they did come and determine that it needed the doorknob assembly replaced which they done within about an hour – not too bad a deal, but don’t you think that housekeeping would have noticed this. Also the hot water in the shower was sporadic and the knob seemed to operate backwards although I really never did figure out the ‘magic’ to make this work consistently during our stay.

In general the rooms were clean and well equipped. Indeed this place is very comfortable and still has potential. The main problem that we had came on Friday night when the heat went out. Yes, this particular week it was cold in Palm Springs and you needed some heat. We were told that ‘they were working on it’, but that it was a general problem with several rooms and they had to go to Riverside to get a part. After another cold night and no progress we asked for other accommodations – but were told that nothing was available that had heat. They did give us a couple of logs for the fireplace and suggested that we start a fire. This wasn’t my idea of a ‘fix’ but we did so anyway. Even though the flue was open on the fireplace the smoke detector immediately went off. I went to the front desk and advised that we had a ‘situation’ that needed attention. Two maintenance people showed up within minutes. One began feverishly waving a newspaper in front of the smoke detector while the other one climbed on a chair and disconnected it. I asked if that was how they fixed it and he replied ‘well it solved the problem didn’t it”.

I usually try to overlook a couple of unfortunate incidents and keep things in perspective, however, when I consider the ‘events’ of our visit and combine that with the lack of concern for meeting the needs of their guests that the staff has I cannot recommend this property to any potential guest or anyone considering buying a timeshare at this location. I have documented my concerns in writing to Trading Places and have had no response so I assume that they find the situation satisfactory. I still think one could have a good stay at this property if you didn’t have any maintenance issues and your need for the staff was minimal. So if you are feeling lucky take a chance on this place for its great location, good price, but don’t say I didn’t warn you.

My boyfriend and I stayed here over Labor Day weekend and it was our first trip to Palm Springs together. The location of this hotel is great, as it is within walking distance to downtown which is exactly what we wanted! The rooms are very large and we enjoyed sipping on mimosas on the extra large balcony that the rooms have as well. They have a fully equiped kitchen which was nice for making our own meals. The two bathrooms were a nice addition too. We really enjoyed our room a lot, even though the furnishings could use some definite upgrading.

Housekeeping left a lot to be desired. They took our dirty towels one day but didn't give us any new ones, so we had to get them from the front desk. They didn't even really "houseclean" at all on one of the days!

Though we enjoyed our room, the management didn't enforce any of the rules that they appeared to be so strict on. The hotel was taken over by a HUGE group of guests that appeared to be a part of the same party! They took over the pool and they were there morning, noon and night and there was NO WAY that we were even going to attempt to go to the pool, as they were noisy and drinking the entire time. They were constantly in the hallways and 3 times our "Do not disturb" sign was taken off our door, hence, housekeeping woke us up every morning to clean our room since our sign was gone!

The front desk even told us that no one under the age of either 21 or 25 (can't remember now which it is) are allowed to rent a room, but so many of them somehow did, so they didn't charge us for our last night since we decided to check out early. The front desk even told us that they got a lot of complaints about the noise, and that it's not usually like that. In my opinion, it should never be like that at all, and if they enforced the rules (pool behavior and drinking etc.) and watched who they rent to, the place wouldn't get out of hand.

We might stay there again, if the price was right and if it wasn't on a holiday weekend. We enjoy the location of this hotel, but I think it's in need of some upgrades for sure. The underground parking was nice, it kept the car nice and cool on those 115 degree days! However, we did go back to Palm Springs over Thanksgiving, but we rented a nice condo right down the street from this hotel and it was a lot cheaper and nicer and still in walking distance to downtown!
