We stayed at this hotel because the two nudist resorts in Palm Springs were already booked solid for Memorial Day weekend.
The city, and this property were absolutely jammed for Memorial Day weekend. The staff did a great job of coping with the crowd, even pressing the concierge into duty checking in guests.
The pool is enormous. Because the hotel persists in the quaint custom of requiring swimsuits, we didn't use the facility, but it appeared that it was well maintained and even on a very busy weekend was kept clean.
The room was comfortable, clean and well equipped. One small housekeeping problem was that a burned out light bulb in the bathroom vanity was not replaced without a special call to maintenance.
The hotel provides a free shuttle service to the downtown area which was excellent. The van drivers are cheerful, helpful and eager to please. When we called for a pick-up after dinner and drinks, the van was always there within 10 minutes to take us back to the hotel. No parking hassles, no DUI worries--this is a service that on its own makes it worth the price of admission to the Renaissance. (Obviously, a nice tip to the driver will help ensure that your next ride will be just as prompt as the first one.)
The Continental breakfast buffet is outstanding. The fresh fruit alone is worth the price. Again, we were there on a holiday weekend when the hotel was overrun with families. Lots of kids who, being kids, created some mess and fuss around the buffet. The staff did a simply outstanding job of keeping the buffet stocked and clean.
My only real beef with this hotel is the charge for parking and the internet. It seems like the higher you go up the hotel "food chain" the more you get charged for stuff that's free elsewhere. Why does the Renaissance need to charge $12.95/day for internet? And, really, a fee to self-park??
I would definitely stay here again.
